Behind the scenes, there have been alchemical brewings in the software cauldron of our illustrious webmaster, James McConnell.
Out of this cauldron will shortly birth a brand spanking new Forum.
It will have three topics, running simultaneously:
General
Philosophy
PracticeGeneral includes every thing that is not clearly philosophical or about practices.
It also includes Off-topics posts. It will be much easier to search for all of the posts of any one poster.
There is a section where you can post your internal arts/meditation training schedule,
for personal (private) or public viewing/commentary.Let me know if there are other refinements you want.
Eventually, when I have time, there will be a FAQ topic.
If someone wants to volunteer to start compiling that from past q&a, it would be great. The admin section (private admittance to me or appointed mediators only) will allow greater ease in blocking porno/spam/impersonators’ registrations.
Sean, the webmaster at Taobums.com had kindly offered to use his even more complex software for a forum upgrade. Because of security considerations, we decided to go with this format.
Hope you enjoy. Welcome your feedback.
should go live within next 24 hours.

Good news and thanks for the efforts.
My initial reaction is you might want to have a “sex and relationships” section, since that seems to be a pretty big percentage of the posts.
Also, you might want to give some thought to the difference between “philosophy” and “practice”, since I think there’s a huge potential for overlap there. My suggestion is either DEFINE WHAT YOU MEAN VERY CLEARLY or pick two new (and more divergent) catagories.
Finally, your increased presence here has been a great asset. As much as I like the idea of segmentation, the general mishmash of the thing does have the advantage of letting a visitor (like yourself) scan down and jump into a variety of posts. I suspect the new system will make it incrementally more time consuming for you to do so, and I hope it won’t diminish your involvement.

New ForumFebruary 24, 2006 at 6:27 pm #10893WilberKEMAIMemberThe Topics will help group posts, not much more.
They can be configured on the fly.
Initially the moderator may have to move posts to the appropriate Topic.
Once you’re in a Topic, everything works in and on that topic, including searching.I recommend reading the Quick Start Guide.
It’s detailed and you need to read about Practice Logs.February 24, 2006 at 7:32 pm #10895spyrelxParticipantLooks good. Here’s my first nit. All the type looks really small. I’ve put my Internet Explorer on “largest” type setting an things look about like they looked under the old format. Would be nice if things were a little bigger (for old geezers like me).
Thanks.

dividing posts into three will actually make it easier for me and others to monitor what’s of interest.
means things won’t get buried as quickly, or at least it should take three times as long.Sex postings can be easily divided into sexual practices, sex philosophy, or general (“I’m looking for a Taoist adept as a lover, any takers?”). We’ll spread the spice out evenly. 🙂
I want to avoid having too many topics, did want to reduce it to two topics, but james suggested we start with three and see how it goes – can always adjust, depending on community consensus.
