Dear Lovers of Creative Energy Flow,

I believe that 2012’s Year of the Male Black Water Dragon will not
disappoint its eager fans. Please note this is a male Dragon, so its
force may be a bit strong for those with delicate constitutions or
hidden resistance to change that this Dragon will mercilessly ferret
out.

First off, I suggest you immediately look at your own Chinese astrology
chart and see if you have any dragons in it. Everyone has four animals,

Dragon element suggests you are born to lead, to hold power, and are
very independent and creative. They are often charismatic and verbally
skillful. But they can be very stubborn, temperamental, hold grudges,
and may not form deep friendships easily. For some, Dragon may be a
secondary trait; if its in the Day or Year column, its primary. Dragon
is one of the top three “power” signs, along with the Monkey and Rat.

Everyone’s destiny is unique, even though we are all living in the
Water Dragon Year. If you have Dragon in your chart already, you can
expect more change than other people. If you like change, you’l be very

Not since Y2K, the last Dragon Year, has there been such global hype
about the end of the world and Earth-shaking Changes, an apocalyptic
mania originally stimulated by Mayan calendar writer Jose Arguelles. He
ironically died a year ago, robbing him of enjoying what he hoped would
be an artistic apocalypse, the end of a cycle of “artistically dead”
cultures and the rebirth of a visionary society.

Of course the public doesn’t know there are many  Mayan calendars with
different start and stop dates, or that Arguelles had his own agenda as
an artist, but it doesn’t really matter.

Why do I say this? His ideas gained popularity only because people all
over the planet WANT Change. So we are collectively dreaming up excuses
to create some Big Change, and the Mayan calendar is a convenient
trigger. Here is the core question: is this deep desire for change a
random whim of humanity, or is it a major change already baked into the “cycle cake”, that humanity is just responding to?

Taoist cultivation is all about creative response to Nature’s cycles. This
ranges from cycles of meridian chi and organ spirits flowing in our
body and controlling our worldly destiny; seasonal cycles that affect
farmers and abundance and our primary enjoyment of physical reality; or
cosmic & star cycles controlling our spiritual destiny. The very
circular rhythmic movements of Qigong are mini-cycles, enhancing and
capturing different frequencies of subtle energy flow in our body, so we
can put the cycles to work for health, enjoyment, or completing our
destiny. Any cycle at root is an expression of the core Yin-Yang or
5-Phase forces flowing in Nature.

Dragon years are significant because it is the only
one of the 12 Animals that is a so-called “mythical” beast. The other
11 Animals can be found on the farm or in your local jungle. This
suggests already that Dragon years are a time for Myth-making. But are
we in a normal 12 year cycle of change, or is this a special mega-Dragon
Year in sync with a 60 year, 120 year, 1200 year, 12,000, or 120,000
year cycle, or a multiple of those? Is this year about our Personal
Myth-making, or is about a Meta-Myth for the whole planet? I’ll discuss
below the major differences between Western and Chinese myths about
dragons.

L: Why are Dragon floats featured in EVERY Chinese New Year, rather than that’s year’s Animal?

R: Lantern Dragon in
Beijing…obviously the communist party wants some of that Dragon mojo
for itself, even though it’s based on “feudal superstition”.

Just because ordinary people describe Dragons as mythical doesn’t mean they are not real.
This is partly a matter of cultural perspective and definition of
“realitiy”: if you live in China, dragons are REAL. As a famous tai chi
training poem says, “imagination creates reality”. Dragons were the REAL
symbol of REAL imperial power for two millennia. Symbols are real, just
like the funny pieces of paper we call money are just symbols of wealth
that everyone treats as real, so you can buy “real” objects with the
symbol-paper money.

Later in this essay I reveal what I think the “real” dragon is, hidden
behind its mythic symbol. But just know that 2012 is about each of us
assuming Rulership over the process of change. Dragon Years enhance our
creative impulses.

The lunar Dragon year Lunar start date was Jan. 23 (second new moon
after Winter Solstice); the Solar year began Feb. 4 (midpoint to Spring
Equinox). The reason it has taken me la while to write this letter is
because I was quite amazed at how powerfully it kicked in, and how
strongly I observed it “kicking” numerous people around me. I wanted a
little time to digest and assess it. On the Jan. 23 Lunar day, I did
series of three qigong rituals to invite the Black Water Dragon spirit
to inhabit my body for the upcoming year.

I was on the beach in the Caribbean, appropriately next to the Water
element. But I have never felt such an immediate and powerful response.
My body began spiralling and twisting spontaneously, completely changing
my tai chi and qigong forms. It became more like bagua zhang (8 Trigram
internal martial art that dances the 8 cosmic forces in spirals – see
my summer retreat website if you want to study this).

The force I felt flowing inside me was quite amazing and inspiring. I
asked the Water Dragon spirit to assist me with a number of creative
tasks this year. One of them was to invite its Dragon friends to expand
their royal power and cosmic love into my wedding ceremony atop Flower
Mountain in China on June 3. I asked that love to be broadcast by the

As a reminder to new readers, I am not into Chinese
astrology as a mental map or parlor game to amuse. I teach, in my higher
level Water and Fire (Kan & Li) Alchemy courses, what I call
“Living Astrology”. We learn to talk to the planets, the sun, moon,
earth, Big Dipper, Pole Star and other constellations and galactic
patterns well known to ancient Taoists. These natural entities DO talk
back, if you know how to speak to them at the right frequency. They are
all Beings in Nature’s amazing matrix of Change, each with their own
agenda and natural powers.

Humans have the power to communicate with and mediate these forces.
Inner alchemy is the energetic science of cultivating those frequencies,
and speeding up the evolution of spirit within matter.
This appalls some religionists, who think alchemists are devils
meddling with God’s cosmic machinery. Since many have abused their
spiritual power in the past, they have a point.

That’s why inner alchemy is an art only to be practiced by adepts with
high “de”, or spiritual integration. That’s also why alchemy’s secrets
are revealed gradually, in stages, so you have time to prove your virtue

But to NOT actively engage these cosmic powers is to dis-empower
oneself. Fear of our spiritual power as Humans is a denial that we have
been gifted with divine power from Source/Tao/God/Nature. The highest
frequency of the Life Force is embedded within our body’s very essence.
If humans are “made in the image of God”, then humans should be able to
mature into wise and loving stewards of Nature’s divine power.

Chinese vs. Western Dragons: Cosmic Sexual Battle?

This year we have the opportunity to mediate an especially powerful
male Black Water Dragon. Where does that Water Dragon live? It lives
within the Energy Body (or soul) of Mother Earth, which is 75% water.
This Water Dragon responds to and mirrors the higher cosmic forces
flowing into planet earth. I believe we are in fact in a Super-cycle
dragon year, evidenced by the collective planetary awakening I see and
feel happening around me.

The real dragon BEHIND the mythic symbol of imperial ruling
Dragon power in China is the spinning spirit of Planet Earth itself. The
hallmark of Dragons are their spinning energy. All chi flows in
spirals, never in a straight line, and the same truth will be found in
modern physics as the spin of atoms, etc. The planet is spinning on its
axis, and spinning around the sun, and together the solar system is on
the Orion arm spinning around the Milky Way galaxy, which is spinning
around some invisible super-galactic center, which is a portal to a
giant Central Sun radiating Oneness and Love rather than physical light.

    

L: Earth as a large pearl hanging in
the vastness of space. But what drives its yin-yang dynamic is its spin,
which creates our cycle of night-day reality and our circadian rhythms.

R: Dragons are always depicted as
guarding a pearl, which is the essence of the Central Sun stepped down
to Planet Earth’s core being and from there into the essence of each
embodied human soul.

Nature’s spirals within spirals are the Dragon energy of evolution –
the spin carries information on the ever-changing destiny of the
multi-verse. So a Dragon Year in the Chinese calendar is a year for
making an evolutionary leap. Are you up for it?

But why are Dragons depicted as evil and needing to be killed in
Western cultures? In my view, this is the Western religious demonization
of the Earth’s Being, in order to prevent her liberation and the
exaltation and redemption of Matter. Essentially, these religions
worship sky gods, which are male dominant, and seek (out of fear) to
control the pro-creative power of the feminine embodied in human females
and in Mother Earth herself.

It is this dying cycle of male dominance that polluted the earth with
non-green technology and dangerous weapons. We essentially have a sexual
battle being played out between humans and between Heaven and Earth.
Mother Earth is female dominant, even though both Heaven and Earth are
androgynous (bi-sexual) at their core.

 

L: Chinese imperial dragons arise
from the ocean, symbol of depths of planet earth. They fly up to the sky
to connect to heaven. Western dragons typically have wings, suggesting
like birds they come from the sky, but usually as attackers – and are
never a symbol of ruling power.

R: Western dragons often have a dark
energy about them. The most famous scene in paintings is that of St.
George slaying a dragon as if it were an evil vermin to be exterminated.

History has a clear record of the religious suppression of Earth, which
is why Western religions depict Hell as being in the center of the
Earth and why spiritual females have been burned as witches. I visited a
museum on the Inquisition in Italy, and 90 percent of devices on
display were designed to sexually torture women. The male priesthood
felt threatened by the spiritual power of women. Essentially, these
males are sexually insecure, because women control the human birthing
portal of spirit into matter.

This is also why alchemists have chosen to remain hidden and secretive;
The Great Work is to liberate the spirit WITHIN matter and within the
human body; it is not to control matter with spirit. If
they did their work openly, they would be attacked by religion. This is
why I personally am promoting the growth of inner alchemy as the remedy
to these old dysfunctional beliefs and the struggle they create between
matter/body and spirit.

All this suggests that Planet Earth is the battleground for a cosmic
sexual struggle between Heaven and Earth. In my exploration of this
subject, Planet Earth’s Energy Body has ALREADY been liberated from the
shackles of forces opposed to it, but Humanity is still downloading this
information and Earth’s process will not be complete until humans
accept it and integrate it into their reality. This Dragon Year 2012 may
be the great awakening of that realization.

This cosmic sexual struggle is what is driving the Earth Changes we are
seeing currently. Dysfunctional male dominated social, religious, and
economic systems are crumbling as they were designed to serve a
different order that is no longer backed by the new spiritual power.
This is a mega cycle of change, and will take decades to play out, but
Dragon years can be energetic turning points that are marked by a rise
in the vibrational rate underlying Earth itself.

This is why so many people are feeling uncomfortable in their bodies,
with strange undiagnosable illnesses, or others – always men – are going
mad and shooting crowds of innocent people. This is all part of the
crumbling of the old psychic structure on the individual and collective
level.

This water dragon will bring up unconscious fears, as fear is the
emotion connected with kidneys/water. When this happens on a collective
level, all kinds of drama can get played out due to the flamboyant and
temperamental nature of dragons,  ranging from the Olympic pageantry to
more revolution in the middle east, to a massive internal spiritual
awakening.

From an interesting article by Ryan Hurd of The Dream Tribe, that puts
the Western myth of killing dragons, made famous by St. George, as an
attempt to re-connect to Earth:

A classic Western story of dragon slaying is the Icelandic myth of
Siegfried, later cemented into Germanic culture by Richard Wagner’s 1876
opera The Ring of the Nibelung. In this myth, Siegfried is charged with
killing the dragon that guards a magical ring. When he slays the
dragon, he extracts his sword blade from its belly, but his hand is
burned by the dragon’s blood.

Instinctively, he puts his hand to his mouth, and tastes the blood.
What happens next sheds light on the dragon’s power: Siegfried soon
realizes he can understand the language of birds, and also can read
men’s thoughts.For Siegfried, killing the dragon means absorbing just a
taste of its power, reconnecting him to nature and to the intuitive
arts.

The truth is that we don’t slay a dragon to crush the darkness, but
rather to uncage it, to let it out so balance is achieved in our minds,
and in the world. This could about the balance of rationality and
intuition, as it was for Siegfried.

Joseph Campbell says the same in The Power of Myth:

“Psychologically, the dragon is one’s own binding of oneself by oneself.
We’re captured in our own dragon cage….” The goal is to “disintegrate
that dragon, break him up, so that you may expand to a larger field of
relationships.” (1988, p. 149).

Campbell’s typical Western approach of attacking and killing the Dragon
is NOT one that I recommend. It reflects the archetype in the Western
psyche that is at war with itself and does not accept the Earth as part
of it own identity, i.e. the belief that spirit should dominate matter
rather than merge with it.

I think my Taoist strategy of inviting the Male Black Water Dragon into
one’s body and using it to accomplish one’s goal is far more effective
and enlightened.

country puts dragons on its stamps as a matter of cultural pride?

Chinese culture is earth-centered, the Yellow Emperor (yellow as color
of Earth) is exalted as the ideal of rulership.  Western culture is
sky-centered, and its history and science have largely tried to dominate
rather than love the Earth, polluting it and threatening it with
extinction via nuclear weapons. So perhaps this Dragon Year will have
different effects in different cultures, more supportive in the East and
more destructive in the West, because the cultures have different
relationships to Dragons and thus will unconsciously call in a different
destiny. .

 

“Taoist” Nano-Crystal Motor debuts in Dragon Year

Long time Chi Flows Naturally newsletter readers will recall three
years ago when I announced that Healing Tao USA was backing a new
experimental nano-crystal core electric motor. Healing Tao instructor
Mitchell Rabin introduced me to the inventor, Ray Caamano. His
green-tech invention was sitting on the shelf, as nobody had any serious
interest in electric motors. Oil had historically been so cheap,
everyone believed it wasn’t worth it to retool the whole economy (the
Big Oil conspiracy).

But I had the spiritual insight that this motor was a kind of material
manifestation of the Wudang Taoist Microcosmic Orbit meditation that I
teach, and that its adoption would speed the greening of Planet Earth.

The Wudang Orbit creates a spinning Yin-Yang force that rotates chi in
the Fire (Du Mai – spine) and Water (Ren Mai – chest) channels. It spins
chi around the neutral core of our body, the Chong Mai, or Penetrating
Vessel that runs from crown of head to perineum. So the Orbit is a kind
of Energy Body motor that simultaneously speeds up, propels, and
balances personal transformation.

The microcosmic orbit meditation
allows its practitioner to absorb unlimited amounts of cosmic energy
into their body because the yin-yang flow of power is kept in balance
and harmony. Diagram does not show the invisible yuan chi (Original
Breath) at the core of the body which acts as a transformative buffer to
the fire-water channels on the spine and chest.

I wanted to drive a vehicle that was literally doing an
electro-magnetic version of the Orbit. I wanted to heal the split
between my values and the gas guzzling, polluting vehicle I drove, so
that my vehicle and I were in material and spiritual harmony. How is
this nano-motor different from conventional motors, first invented 100
years ago by Nikola Tesla? Tesla’s motor has an iron core, with copper
wrapped around it to conduct the electro-magnetic force out to drive the
wheels.

KLD nano-motor is so compact it needs
no gears and fits inside the wheel, where it can more efficiently drive
the vehicle. Its advanced propulsion system is 35% more efficient than
current electric motors, which is HUGE – a disruptive technological
breaththrough that will make all-electric vehicles competitive with gas
vehicles.

At the core of this motor is a nano-crystalline substance that replaces
the iron in regular motors. This crystal is cooled 2 million degrees in
2 seconds (by dipping it in nitro glycerine), producing thin strips of
metal that are essentially neutral in charge. What makes it neutral? The
metal is formed in those 2 seconds BEFORE the earth’s electro-magnetic
field can polarize it. When you put that nano-crystal metal strip in the
center of a motor’s spinning magnets, it stays cool, unlike iron, which
is a polarized metal, and thus heats up.

In the same Way, in the Taoist orbit meditation it doesn’t matter how
much yin-yang “load” you run through the Orbit, because the neutral core
channel will buffer and balance the fire-water chi flow. Both the
spinning Orbit meditation and the spinning nano-motor are methods for
capturing this spinning polarized electro-magnetic force and putting it
to work.

Long story short, I put in my life savings to fund the building of a
prototype nano-motor.  People told me I was crazy, as 90% of these tech
startups fail. I then raised nearly $2 million dollars from the Taoist
community – largely my newsletter readers – to fund the launch of the

solar eclipse over China in the Year of the Rat, the first sign of the

2012 Predictions + I Ching Advice: Ride the Elephant

 

So how is this super-cycle Dragon year likely to play out?

What makes it a super-cycle is the dramatic shifts in the Earth
vibratory rate. This can produce all kinds of changes, ranging from
strange un-diagnosable body illnesses, to communities reporting high
vibrational sounds, to traumatic weather events. This is Mother Earth,
gradually raising the frequency of manifestation, forcing everyone to
adapt to the new coming reality.

Dragon years have always been like this, only this year will be even more powerful.

The last Water Dragon Year was 1952. The first  hydrogen bomb was
exploded, hydrogen also being the key element of water element. Other
water disasters happened; a US aircraft carrier collision at sea killed
176 seamen.  The Kamchatka earthquake created a Tsunami which surged the
whole way to Hawaii.

A Dragon is made up of the elements of yang earth (= self assertion),
yin water (= deep feeling) and yin wood (= inner creativity).  We can
expect more earthquakes and their associated water challenges as Mother
Earth asserts herself.  Serious earthquakes have occurred in the last 5
dragon years.  Alaska 1964 had the biggest ever-recorded 9.2 on Richter
scale.  The biggest loss of life was the Tangshan earthquake in 1976
where 250,000 people died in a fire dragon year. We can expect one way
or another a very watery year; it may take the form of floods or heavy
rains.

The Dragon’s Wood energy is very creative as wood tends to expand,
which makes things a little unpredictable. 2012 will be like a difficult
birth. We need to persevere and keep going, knowing that things will
eventually turn out OK.

Fear itself will be the biggest resistance to enjoying the creative
impulse in this Dragon year. Health-wise the water element rules the
kidneys, and fear is basically just frozen kidney chi. When you freeze
up, the Water Dragon may arrive and help you break up your fear by
forcing you to face it.

Financial markets are governed by water (also = money), so they are
likely to rise and fall like the Dragon’s tail. Expect volatility, and
this creates an opportunity to both make and to lose huge money. If you
have strong earth element in your chart, you are likely to make big
profit. If you have weak earth in your chart, you are likely to lose and
so should not take any financial risk.

The election year in the US will favor the democrats, as the
republicans represent the old values and institutions that are crumbling
and being washed aside by the Dragon’s wave. Of course, in times of
change, many run to the past for their solutions, but that won’t cut it
in a dragon year. New young dragon leaders need to emerge to lead the
Way through the global crisis.

I CHING on 2012

I asked the I Ching for its general advice about how to best harmonize
with this Dragon Year, to share with my newsletter readers. I got
hexagram 16, Riding the Elephant / Providing For.
The image is Thunder above, Earth below. “A Great Being who can be
humble can respond to the commands of Heaven”. It’s about responding to
your life joyously, spontaneously, and directly. Elephants in ancient
China were the symbol of storing and discharging spiritual power. This
is the same role that Mother Earth herself plays in relation to Humanity
– we are collectively riding on the back of her giant body. Can we
enjoy it more deeply?

Hexagram 16: Riding the Elephant.
Imagine the upper three lines are the elephant’s powerful foot, its
Thunder stepping onto the receptive triple-yin nature of the Earth
below.

This hexagram is about enjoying a ride on the world’s largest beast,
the massive Elephant, whose very footsteps causes the earth to shake
like thunder. This suggests Earth Changes that might include
earthquakes. I recently rode an elephant in Thailand, and discovered
that if I took off my shoes and socks, and put my bare feet on its neck,
that I could easily communicate with and guide the huge beast. Whacking
it and hitting it from the outside involve force and leads to
exhaustion (not to mention irritation by the elephant).

This is the number one priority for 2012: Be as Grounded as an
Elephant, so you can enjoy this ride on the back of a powerful Water
Dragon Spirit that is leading the Earth during 2012. If you talk to this
spirt from a grounded place, and humbly listen to its advice, you’ll
have a fantastic and exciting creative year, your best ever. It’s a time
to take risks, to leap outside your normal (too often narrow) range of
imagination. People will make or lose big money/career
advancements/romances this year, depending on how in touch they are with
this Dragon and their own higher destiny. “Grace and power”, the “site
of a creative transformation” are how the Total I Ching scholar Stephen
Karcher describes this Riding the Elephant hexagram.

There were two changing lines in my hexagram reading. Line 1 images a
Trumpeting Elephant, in resistance. It suggests people who cling to past
dependencies will suffer: “Trap! the Way is closed”. Dragons are
volatile and unpredictable, and it’s especially hard to control Water
Dragons. So flow with its intelligence, rather than trying to control
it. That means not clinging to fixed old ways that a single wave from
this Dragon could easily wash away. If you invite it in, the powerful
gushing water energy of this year will feel like a needed cleansing, a
spiritual PURIFICATION. If you cling and resist, it will feel like a
disaster hit you, a tsunami or tornado.

LIne 4 is a Hesitating Elephant. “Provide for it. Do not doubt! This
source provides for a Joyous Response. Great Acquisitions.” Commenetary
suggests the importance of joining together with other friends.

These two changing lines suggest that the situation will change to Hexagram 24, Return.
This hexagram is about “Love and spirit return after a difficult time”.
Before one can return to the Origin, we must first strip out the old.
This suggests the wild Dragon wide of 2012 will be difficult for many
with its dramatic  changes, but afterwards everyone will be living their
Truth. It describes this as “going and coming in the stream of Time
without affliction. Return comes on the 7th Day”. So take heart if you
are having a difficult Dragon year – in the end. you will see clearly
the changes were needed to bring you home to your Authentic Self (Zhen
Ren).

In making friends with Dragons, I
find it helpful to have Dragon art around me. This powerful dragon
spirit was done by a woodcarver in Bali who only carves dragons. Two of
these wood Dragons accompany me on my summer Inner Alchemy retreats near
Asheville, NC.
