Just a quickie, ‘what do taoists think about this?’ as Intelligence would say.
The zen master, surrounded by his students, roars like lion in triumph and dies. His soul goes – well, he was enlightened. I don’t know. Somewhere good.
But Ge Hong, celebrated Taoist alchemist, also dies. And when he does, nothing is left but a fragrance and a golden glow that lasts three days. So goes the story.
Western magician Dion Fortune says that her teacher would project etherically and lose half his body weight. His physical body could easily be picked up like that of a small child, whilst his astral body could be felt as a weight and seen very easily. What happened at his death is not recorded!
It seems that the transmutation of one’s physical substance plays a role in some systems.
Anyone here with any thoughts on it?

Sorry Nnonnth,
That’s the first thing that popped into my strange head when I read your article, and it brought a big amused grin. ^_^
What are we talking about here?
Would this mean taking our physical body with us and using it in the beyond, or would it mean somehow tranforming the jing into chi or shen at the moment of death and using that on our journey?
Isn’t there something in the Healing Tao system (at the higher levels, that I know nothing about) about creating a soul body or spirit body or something in the beyond for depositing your essence or spirit into upon death? I remember seeing something like this in Healing Tao a couple of years ago when I was evaluating different systems, but I could be wrong.
I’d be curious to hear what others (more informed types) have to say about this.
Smiles,
Steven
