My son, recently turned 8, had an experience and an idea today about which I would really like your opinion. Earlier this year he started feeling like he had serpent energy in him. It started to come when he felt angry and bad inside after I yelled at him. He decided that maybe he’d like that feeling to become a serpent feeling. Today he touched a water fountain and it went on and off many times and he thinks it was his serpent energy that did it (this isn’t true, as it did that for me, but he does feel that). He wants to make the feeling come real and make a pet serpent out of his feeling. He came up with the idea of doing this by putting earth, his feelings and some of his blood in a jar and then the serpent will come out of it. (he wants me to add: “I’m having to do lots of math…oh dear!”)
We do have him talk about his feelings, and he does see some spirits, but we are not into evoking or invoking or spells in this house, so aren’t quite sure how to proceed. Any thoughts?
September 12, 2007 at 9:02 pm #24367NnonnthParticipantI’m really rather aghast at your post…
I really wish I knew… my first reaction is that it sounds like a bad idea… my thoughts in order:
– That is exactly the way some magicians would indeed make a spirit and give it form, technique-wise – but NOT motivation-wise.
– That is not something an 8-y-o could be expected to know.
– What does he mean when he says he has to do lots of math? Is the math for the jar/earth/blood/serpent? If so where did he get the idea?
– Also, is there anything in his life or yours, or from TV etc., that could have given him this idea or is it his alone?
– What spirits has he seen and do you talk about this much?
– Has he done any training?
Yes my first reaction is that it is not a good idea to externalize his feelings like that, especially if they are *unresolved* feelings. In fact the more I feel about it the more of a bad idea I think it is. I don’t know of any *adult* magician who would do such a thing – that is, make a thoughtform and energy into an external spirit for no purpose other than to ‘make the feeling come real’. I really would like to know where he got the idea, can you tell me or can he? One should only externalize a thoughtform in an emotionally neutral and balanced state… there are exceptions but I think they are… *adult* exceptions!
I’m sorry I have to write this in haste. Let me know any replies or further things you have, esp. if something happens that feels connected.

He got the jar idea on his own, there was no voice. He explains that, right now it is a feeling slithering around. He chose earth because he feels he is dominated by earth element, and he chose blood because it is his system of energy.
The snake feels close to him for some reason. The snake makes him feel in between good and bad. The snake will some good things like help my son’s mom wash dishes, and will do some bad things like, if my son is angry, the snake might be angry too because my son made the snake. If my son is in the time-out chair, the snake will take him out. And, when he is angry at me, he would like the snake to scare me by scowling at me.
The only place my son could have got ideas generally like this is from…Harry Potter movies and books, or Bionicle or Pokemon (e.g. Rayquesa is a serpent that goes in the air).
Thanks for your concern. I have explained to him that magic is a serious enterprise and that it is easy for evil things to sneak in while conducting magic.
The math comment he made was a joke, as he was doing his math homework while I typed the message.
He hasn’t done any training; he is a VERY independent spirit.
About, the spirits he has talked to. One was a bad one that tried to scare him, he even had a name for it, and it lived in his curtains, so we took the curtains down. There was another that was a cute little black puffball that lives behind the railing of our downstairs banister, that he says goes outside in spring and comes back in the fall. And, there are some other ghosts he has said he has seen, but he isn’t really interested in them, and they don’t communicate.
Wendy, who we all know has great affinity for serpent-energy, replied to me offline and is checking him out in the dreamplane.
I’ll be offline for 10 days, beginning at 7 pm your time on Thursday, so any thoughts that you have about this situation would be appreciated.
thanks,

Everything else is too personal and in private email…
September 13, 2007 at 7:34 am #24373NnonnthParticipant… I also did a little checking out and I don’t think there is any serious ‘neg trouble’ as they say. I still recommend not making the jar thing! Really. But tbh I also would like to mail you privately. get me at Nnonnth[at]aol.com and I will give some details. Wendy’s short comment seems well put. j
September 13, 2007 at 10:42 am #24375voiceParticipantIt is nice to have such a good community of powerful and caring friends. And, it is very comforting to know that he hasn’t “touched” anything too negative.
Our concerns were really two-fold. First, that he is quite angry and may have given into something. Second, that his love of organically creating art/sculpture/things from random objects, might result in him making this thing by chance.
Hearing the concern from a magician (Jason) and someone in touch with serpent energy (Wendy), he now puts more fully believes what my wife and I said to him.
thanks,
