This is now the week leading to new moon solar eclipse (having just passed last qtr phase) and a full moon lunar eclipse occurs 2 weeks after that. Mercury is now retro and Mars is now stationed about to turn direct. Add Pluto going into Capricorn and this spells potent change on the inner planes at least – and with the mob all doing lots to neutralize any false energy – hey its all great, isn’t it? Seriously, IMO this looks like plenty of work to hold inner equilibrium. Asto events are listed in report at link below.

I’ve only ever seen one study that gives any credence to astrology anyway. It was done in the 70’s i think by a French psychologist called Gaucalin (?? can’t remember spelling and i don’t know French). he was the first, and I think last, to show statistical correlations with birth charts and life paths.
ALL the other astrologists I know of are great at hindsight. One notable professional and family friend had Bush losing in 2004. Well, we know how that turned out. She went back and poured over her star charts and said “Oh! there is it is! I missed this one thing in this place of the chart and it changes everything!”
I’ve seen astrologers do a very good job of reviewing historical events, then explaining why those things happened way back when cuz something was going on in the stars. Yet predicting the future, even in the short term, remains elusive. Astrologers are a lot like earthquake geologists–they can explain why the earthquake happened, but they can’t predict them.
Your prediction above is so general and vague it could mean just about anything. Now let’s look at the specific predictions from the link:
1. The Solar Eclipse on February 6 activates a cluster of planets in mid-Aquarius, which lands right on the U.S. nadir. This alignment occurs during SuperTuesday’s results, and features a retrograde Mercury near Neptune, perhaps bringing a variety of misinformation, a few miscounts, snafus, and the likelihood that no candidate can declare total victory.
THIS HAPPENS DURING EVERY ELECTION AND PARTICULARLY FOLLOWS TRENDS IN THE CURRENT (no clear dem front runner, mccain unexpectedly leading reps, no astrology necessary).
2. Mars in Gemini turned direct in late January, and heads toward an opposition to Pluto on March 6. This makes the entire month of February under the nasty influence of this severe aspect, which tends to make people verbally aggressive and attack-oriented. In the business world, watch for major cuts.
MORE LIKELY BASED ON ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL TRENDS, ELECTIONS, AND SEVERE WEATHER IN CHINA. DISGUISED HERE AS ASTROLOGY. IF CITICORP ANNOUNCES IN MID-JANUARY SEVERE CUTS, I CAN, AS AN ASTROLOGER, ANNOUNCE IN LATE JANUARY, SEVERE CUTS, AND CLAIM IT’S ASTROLOGICAL.
3. Jupiter opposes the U.S. Sun on February 16, and then squares the U.S. Saturn on February 25, marking a phase when U.S. leaders express increased confidence in the election process and financial institutions. Enthusiastic patriotism is in the air, and a few concurrent success stories may inspire renewed optimism about the future.
ALMOST MEANINGLESS. DURING FINANCIAL CRISES PUBLIC OFFICIALS ALWAYS EXPRESS INCREASED CONFIDENCE. EVEN CARTER DID THIS DURING THE STAGFLATION OF THE 70S AND HERBERT HOOVER DID IT RIGHT BEFORE THE MARKET CRASHED IN 1929. CONCURRENT SUCCESS STORIES ALWAYS TAKE PLACE, AND BASICALLY THIS IS JUST REPEATING HISTORICAL OBSERVATIONS.
4. Mercury turns direct on February 18 – while exactly square the U.S. Scorpio Ascendant. Doubt fades about the presidential campaign, with clear leaders from both parties emerging. Expect some big news story to dramatically shift public awareness, especially regarding the national image in the global village.
BIG DEAL. THE MAJORITY OF DELEGATES WILL BE CHOSEN BY FEB 18, SO OF COURSE IT’S LIKELY WE’LL KNOW THE FRONT RUNNER. NO ASTROLOGY NEEDED. TELL ME WHO THE FRONT RUNNER IS EXACTLY BY HOW MANY DELEGATES BASED ON ASTROLOGY AND I’LL BE IMPRESSED. “SOME BIG NEWS STORY”. GOSH, COULD THAT REALLY HAPPEN? TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT THAT IS AND I’LL BE IMPRESSED. WHO, WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY AND HOW.
5. The Lunar Eclipse on February 20 takes place with the Sun in Pisces conjunct Vesta and opposite Saturn. This complex likely relates to the job market, and foretells an increase in the monthly unemployment rate and new rounds of job cuts. Those with job security might see some belt-tightening or changes in duties. Also, watch for major intelligence reports.
MORE PREDICTIONS THAT DON’T REQUIRE ASTROLOGY. IF YOU READ THE PAPER EVERY DAY, ITS EASY TO FIGURE OUT THAT INTELLIGENCE REPORTS ARE EMERGING ALL THE TIME ON IRAN AND PAKISTAN, AS WELL AS OTHERS.
in conclusion, i think you’re right, it’s all in fun. There is nothing to indicate that astrology has given any additional insights whatsoever to world affairs from these predictions. But if you find it fun to let this stimulate your daily chat and wonder, have at it.

Heath Ledger was born with his Aries Sun opposite Pluto (April 4, 1979; Perth, Australia; time unknown), an unusually powerful pairing which can bring great charisma and psychological depth, but also a fear of loss of control or identity. In extreme cases, as astrologer Adrian Ross Duncan describes, “they fear becoming invisible, empty or annihilated…. at the root of being there is a deep existential anxiety.”
Heath’s Moon in Cancer squares Pluto, giving him access to intense subconscious emotions and feelings. This combination fuels the Plutonian complexes in his psyche, which he tapped into during his Oscar-nominated roles, roles which were becoming ever-more sinister, as in his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight (due out on July 18, 2008), a cinematic representation of Pluto’s subterranean power struggles.
Heath’s death took place during his Saturn Return. Natally, he has Venus opposite Saturn, one of the most difficult astrological obstacles to finding happiness in life. As transiting Saturn returned, his lack of happiness must have been on his mind when he went to sleep that afternoon. Also, transiting Uranus was conjunct his Ceres (the parent-child asteroid), indicating that his most deeply felt loss was his separation from Matilda.
SO AFTER THE GUY IS DEAD WE CAN TELL HOW ASTROLOGY KILLED HIM. GREAT. HAD ASTROLOGERS TOLD US IN ADVANCE, PERHAPS IT COULD’VE BEEN PREVENTED? DID ANYONE EVER SAY “ON SUCH AND SUCH A DATE HEATH WILL TRY TO KILL HIMSELF, WATCH OUT FOR THIS!”
NO THEY DIDN’T.
this type of astrology is very boring……
January 31, 2008 at 1:35 am #27272russellnParticipantI understand the points you make. Much I agree with in there. You say “Or we could just take control of our own destinies thru inner work and not worry about how the planets affect us.” and this was really the point of my post, for practitioners to do just that at a time which seems to have a lot of astro activity. Inner alchemy as taught by Michael works with the planets on the inner planes at Greatest Kan and Li level. The result is to be more at cause rather than or at least less subject to such cycles. There is a lot of learning going on as to what works and what does not and I agree with discounting after-the-event comments. For many months, in some cases years, astrologers have been watching the transit of Pluto (planet or not) to Capricorn and pointing to the symbolism suggesting very big changes (reforms) to business and government – outer world structures associated with Capricorn. That transit is now in effect, from 27 January. IMO the effect is likely to be radically accelerated when Pluto moves to Capricorn from the Helio, Sun centred viewpoint, on 21 July 2008. As you say, more grist for the mill of inner work, and taking control of our destinies. The reason I study and practice astrology is for that reason, its a part of inner alchemy; tools to use if they help one get more freedom, more mastery.
RFebruary 2, 2008 at 2:35 am #27274Michael WinnKeymasterThorny,
I suggest you read Under One Sky by Rafi Nasser (kan & Li student). He decided to “blind test” astrology, and got top astrologers from 12 major western schools to give a reading on the same person’s chart given to them. That person wrote up their life history, without knowing about any of the readings, and put all the dates in.
That Person, by the way, was my wife, Joyce Gayheart. The result is a pretty interesting book. Everyone can read for themselves Joyce’s description of her life, and compare it to the readings. she herself felt 4 of them were excellent, 4 mediocre, and 4 poor.
Chinese astrology was not included because it didn’t use exact minute of birth in its chart.
I don’t think its about whether “astrology works”, anymore than one can discuss whether “alchem works”.
You work them, for better or worse – you use the symbols and their essences to understand and shape your reality. They both offer tools for mediating cosmic forces. Modern astrology feels too intellecctual to me, and goes in one ear and out the other, without penetrating to the jing level to cause change structually.Living asrology is very different, you come into relationship directly with the forces being mediated by the planets, sun, moon, etc. That is the role of astorlogy in alchemy.
