Michael Winn assigns the Tiger to metal/lungs, and the Deer to the wood/liver. I’ve seen material from a another reputed teacher where the Tiger is wood/liver and the Deer is the kidneys/water.
Is this kind of variation common – I know there are different styles? Is one assignment more universally accepted?
Thanks!
Hi getfunky,
I’ll chime in since noone else has… Animal imitation systems vary; there are many variations- there are simple versions and complex. Some attribute Crane to kidneys to represent “essence”, Longevity, Tiger: Bones, ligaments, et cetra. Hua Tuo developed five animal frolics and thus many masters and their insights developed.
This version has a direct relation to inner skill/outer skill(five shen, 5 cardinal, seasons, benefits for physcial of body etc. And is the past of least resistance. I recommend the easier forms to the complex ones which will take alot of work to master and alot of space to perform.
SOME PERFORM ONLY ONE PER SEASON LIKE NOW WOULD BE “DEER”, KIDNEYS, NORTHERN DIRECTION,ETC.

Thanks Snow Lion; that clears it up.
there are many ways to connect internal and external
or form and formless
it comes to authority and intent of practitioner
of course each choice has consequences and circumstances
