Im just starting to learn DHQ and would be grateful for some clarification re Bathing in Sun and Earth Qi.
1. Im a little confused by the (apparent) difference between whats on the DVD and whats in the instruction sheet accompanying the DVD.
On the DVD, the energy body extends upward raising the chi ball to the sun and solar chi is gathered into the chi ball. However, on the DVD, theres no explicit chi ball symmetry in that, when it comes to gathering earth chi from the centre of the earth, the chi ball is not mentioned. That is, theres no explicit instruction to extend the energy body to downward lowering the chi ball to the centre of the earth so that earth chi can be gathered into it. Instead, the instruction is simply to exhale the contents of ones body-mind into the centre of the earth and then inhale up earth chi.
However, in the instruction sheet, there is chi ball symmetry in that there’s an explicit instruction to lower the chi ball to the centre of the earth.
Feel your energy body extending from your palms deep into the earth. Exhale your personal chi ball into the center of the earth, and inhale, charging it with the earths healing essence.
Is there any discrepancy here, or is lowering the chi ball to the centre of the earth implied in the DVD?
2. On the DVD and in the written instructions, when one bathes the body in solar chi, bathing is from the head to the feet i.e. the entire body. However, when one bathes the body in earth chi, bathing is explicitly at least only from the feet to the waist i.e. only the lower half of the body. Is one, nevertheless, implicitly bathing the whole body in earth chi, or is it intended that only the lower half of the body be bathed in earth chi?
3. On the DVD and in the written instructions, were told to see solar chi as golden in colour. However, were not given a colour for earth chi. Does it have a particular colour?
Apologies if this is overly pedantic…but any clarification much appreciated!

The reason for some of these discrepancies is because the handout was written after the fact and there is some overlap between what he does in the DHQ form and what he does in later coursework. In particular, the qi ball method to sun/earth is something used in the Greatest K&L course. The important point is that Michael is providing you with different options to play with, rather than one set rigid thing.
Long story short, you can do it either way: simply exhaling the contents of your consciousness to sun/earth OR you send a qi ball to the sun/earth. It’s good to play with both and see how they work for you. Then pick whichever one you personally feel is the most powerful for you.
RE: 2.
I think it is only written that way, because you start at the waist. However, on subsequent rounds you proceed from the earth up to the head. Your full body is being bathed in each direction. You don’t artificially stop the earth qi bathing when you reach the waist.
RE: 3.
Use gold.

Re: 3 – I always use blue for earth chi.
August 8, 2014 at 3:00 pm #42711StevenModeratorThere is Greatest K&L material embedded into this form, and there have been many upgrades to this form since the DVD came out, too numerous to list here. It would take a whole class to explain them all and explain the deeper aspects of the DHQ form.
I am considering offering a DHQ retreat in 2015 if there is interest.

Thanks. Thats very helpful. I’ll play!
RE 2

I dont follow! On my watching/reading of the DVD/instructions, all rounds start and finish at the waist. And thus, bathing in earth chi starts at the feet and finishes at the waist. For example, on bathe down the front, up the back, the instructions say
Inhale this earth chi as you draw your palms…up the back of your legs…standing straight, bring palms from behind back around your waist (like a belt of energy) and back into the starting position. Repeat sequence
And to repeat, you
raise extended arms holding your chi ball in an arc until it is directly above the crown of your head…
So I cant see anywhere during the bathings where the upper body is explicitly bathed in earth chi. Am I missing something?
RE 3
Given that the sun is golden, I can see why youd use gold as the colour of solar chi. But just wondering what the rationale is for also using gold as the colour of earth chi.In the DVD, the three bathings are demonstrated only in one direction. However, in the instructions it says that they can be done in each of the five directions. In which case
Bathe the body with the five colors (yellow centre, white west, blue north, green east, red south)
No mention of gold here! Im confused! Is the idea that when, for example, facing north, both solar and earth chi are visualized as blue?

Yes, as far as the count goes, you start the count at the waist and after the third time you reach the waist, you start the next movement in the bathing sequence. All true. But the point is that once you begin the first round–from that point forward–you are continually moving between the sun and the earth and the earth to the sun. You are not artificially stopping the qi from rising once you rise about the waist. It’s not like you say, “OK I’ve reached the waist again, but since my numerical count is now starting ‘2’ I’m now done and so I won’t use the qi that I’ve already acquired from the earth anymore”. You are washing the body in both directions with qi from your hands (or qi ball depending on approach) that has been supercharged by sun/earth . . . that’s the whole idea of the thing. Don’t get caught up on how the counting of repetitions is done. 😉
>>>Given that the sun is golden, I can see why youd use gold

>>>the rationale is for also using gold as the colour of earth chi.No. This gold color doesn’t really have anything to do with the energy body of the sun. It has to do with the nature of the qi that you have washing over your body. You are picking gold qi in the simplified DHQ form (on the DVD) because gold represents refined metal . . . purified qi that is cleansing your body of sickness. We typically use gold whenever we expect the qi to having been refined to a high level. If we were simply using qi from the earth, we would have used the color blue.
You need to be very careful to understand the context.
For example:
1. Earth qi (yellow)
2. Qi from the earth (blue)
3. Refined, purified qi [from any source] (gold)This doesn’t even get into the color of the energy bodies of the Sun or Earth, which is something entirely different and is part of the more advanced practice using Greatest K&L.

>>>both solar and earth chi are visualized as blue?Yes, (in this extended version) the qi that is washing over you has the color of the direction that you are facing. So if you are facing north, you use blue for the qi that washes over you. This is regardless of whether you are washing top-down or bottom-up.

Thanks. Very helpful. So although the explicit bathing-in-earth-qi movement stops at the waist, the earth qi naturally continues rising, along with the arms (that are now involved in the next count).
Info on qi colour also very helpful (and interesting).
