Just say NO to antibiotics this cold and flu season
I like the way one writer puts it: “For the love of God, people, stop taking antibiotics for colds.”
I’ll add, with equal passion: Fellow physicians, stop prescribing antibiotics for colds!
And, cold and flu sufferers, stop asking your doctor for antibiotics.
Antibiotics are among the most over-prescribed medications we’ve got. Yet they should be among the least prescribed.
If you get pneumonia, certain forms of bronchitis, MRSA, or cellulitis, you’ll need antibiotics. Because these are infections caused by bacteria.
If you have a cold or the flu, steer clear of antibiotics. That’s because antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections. They do nothing at all to treat viral infections like cold and flu.
But if current trends aren’t radically corrected, here’s what antibiotics will do.
They threaten to turn our lives and our childrens lives into a living hell. We may soon revert to a world where people die from an infection as simple as a paper cut.
Yes, it’s that serious. Ill explain in just a moment
A word about the unwise
It’s not just me.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently did a multi-country survey of people’s knowledge of antibiotics. Among the findings:
64 percent of respondents believed antibiotics can be used to treat flus and colds
32 percent believed they can stop taking an antibiotic as soon as they feel bettereven if they haven’t completed the entire prescription
These are among my more profound, jaw-dropping moments.
Antibiotics and the rise of the superbugsI’m not a fan of antibiotics. Because, not only do they destroy the harmful bacteria in your body, they destroy most or all of the friendly bacteria as wellbacteria that are absolutely essential to fortifying your immune system and keeping you healthy.
When friendly bacteria go down, your immune system goes down. That happens with any course of antibiotics. That’s what’s always wrong with this picture.
But it gets much worse when someone who really does need an antibiotic fails to take the fully prescribed course. When that happens, only some of the disease-causing bacteria are eliminated. The strongest of them surviveand having been “vaccinated” by the antibiotic, theyve “learned” how to resist that antibiotic.
These antibiotic-resistant bacteria are giving rise to superbugs which are multiplying all over the world. Rendering all but a handful of once-powerful antibioticsresponsible for saving millions of lives worldwidewithout any potency whatsoever.
The rise of antibiotic resistance is a global health crisis, and governments now recognize it as one of the greatest challenges for public health today. It is reaching dangerously high levels in all parts of the world, says Dr Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General.
Millions of lives are at stake, including here in the US. So listen and observe: for a cold or flu, say no to antibiotics.
The best cure, of course, is prevention. And my best suggestion for that is to gargle with plain water three times a day throughout cold and flu season.
Talk about simplebut it will cut your risk of catching a cold by almost 40 percent, according to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
If you already have a runny nose, drink lots and lots of water and get lots of sleep.
If you already have a cold or sinus infection, I highly recommend a saltwater nasal rinse with a neti pot.
A what?
It’s another wonderful practice that’s been around for centuriesbecause it works. Safely, effectively, and inexpensively. It removes mucus and irritating toxins and allergens, which reduces stuffiness and helps protect your lungs from unwanted visitors.
You’ll find neti pots and packaged saline nasal rinses in your drugstore.
The neti pot will come with detailed instructions. Or you can re-create the same effect yourself. All you need is water, salt, and a bulb syringe from your drugstore.
Mix eight ounces of warm, distilled water (you want water thats free of chlorine and any potential bacteria or pathogens ) with ⅛ teaspoon of salt. Sea salt is preferable for its important minerals, but use whatever is handy.
Fill the bulb syringe with the solution.Lean over the sink and gently insert the syringe tip about ½” into your nose. Do not try to force the syringe any further. Trust your nose to know its limits.
Point the tip of the syringe toward your temple, then gently squeeze the syringe bulb. The saltwater will flow into your nostril. Allow it to drain out of your mouth or other nostril.Switch nostrils and repeat.
Couldn’t be simpler.Clean the syringe by filling it with fresh water several times and squeezing the water out.
When the water runs clear, dry the bulb well and store it with the tip facing downward so any water inside can drip out.You can do this saline rinse several times a day to relieve your symptoms.
But rememberjust say no to antibiotics unless your doc confirms your symptoms are due to a bacterial infection, not a cold or a virus.
It will be a happier holiday season for the whole world if you do that.

December 14, 2015 at 7:26 am #45458rideforeverParticipantI have been using a neti pot every day for years, and get very few colds or sinus problems. Funny thing is Western medicine now has their own injector gun to stick up the nose and completely ruined the design. I suppose it would be embarrassing for them to say to patients … hey use this 10,000 year old pot it’s much better than our modern medicine !
As for antibiotics, I was recently pondering on the logic of using them. Actually there are as many bacteria in your body as there are human cells. (by number not weight, human cells weight more than human cells.) And the bacteria are supposed to be there. Just as you are suppose to stand on the Earth (the Earth could also start calling you a bacteria and kill everyone of you … by this logic).
So how are antibiotics supposed to work ? By killing every bacteria in your body ? That is an awful lot of bacteria … it’s a bit of a Middle Eastern bombing approach.
You have a cut on your hand, kill ALL BACTERIA !
You have a sore throat, kill ALL BACTERIA !
A truly stupid form of medicine.

December 14, 2015 at 7:13 pm #45462StevenModeratorThrough correct application of probiotics, vitamin C, Chinese herbs, and daily qigong, a person can avoid ever getting sick to begin with. You don’t need a neti pot.
The last time I had a cold was May 29, 2011.
I haven’t been sick of any kind since then. And this is saying a lot, since I used to get 2-3 colds *per year* . . .

December 15, 2015 at 7:07 pm #45464russellnParticipantYes, great. I still need a neti pot wash now and then and it helps. Dare to suggest that as practice extends deep roots and alchemy cooking need cleanse tools every level. Sometimes a metal issue may arise suddenly (trigger may be planets cycle) and need to hit it with all help possible, including nasal-sinus salt water wash. Maybe just my constitution emphasis needs that at times. Great to have not getting sick as normal condition thanks to practice etc.
December 15, 2015 at 7:41 pm #45466StevenModeratorWell, to clarify, it is not just practice.
Practice alone was only able to reduce my 3 severe colds per year, down to 1. So I was still getting sick, just not as frequently and not as severely. To eliminate the sickness altogether, it required adding on the other things I mentioned.
I wasn’t particularly a healthy person before . . . even when not sick, I often had airborne allergies (sinus, etc.). There was a time when I needed to do nasal washes too . . . even had a monthly shipment of special fine powder salt to mix into the water. But by making the correct choices, you can change this. Now I have boxes of tissues in my linen closet that I bought five years ago that are still unopened, and I don’t need to do any kind of nasal washes. The nasal wash stuff is collecting dust in my cabinet.
I just wanted to present another option, rather than being one of several here jumping on the bandwagon and saying “YES! NETI POT!”. Because my experiences have led me to something more beneficial (at least for me) . . .
However, if others wish to do differently, it is not for me to judge.

-http://forum.healingdao.com/general/message/25915/This week we will begin doing exercise that use Perineum power to direct Energy (Chi) to various parts of the body. Breathing into the Waist starts with an inhalation of an Abdominal Breath. You then push out your navel and pull up the perineum and anus (Perineum Power), directing them toward navel. Next you pull in the navel toward the spine and redirect Perineum Power to the Ming men point on the spine opposite the navel. We will also direct Perineum Power toward the left and right sides of the waist. The idea is to increase the Chi pressure inside the body . Doing this packs the fascia (the connective tissues around the organs) in a protective cushion of Chi called by Taoists the “Iron Shirt.” This is form of Iron Shirt Breathing that I call Four-Square Breathing.
-ERIC STEVEN YUDELOVE, Taoist Yoga and Sexual EnergyBest solution, in my opinion, would seem to be to check if there is more to learn from Indian direction also.
Meditations are not anyway inferior (maybe superior?) compared to Chinese ones and the secret for being healthy in the end is really something else than simply using Neti Lota.
But to learn quicker and still safely it’s better to have right practices.
Like Yudelove is teaching quite simple system to use the Perineum Power; to develop Abdominal Power nauli is essential.
