Helping, Fixing or Serving?
By Rachel Naomi Remen
This reminds me of the problem identified to the male personality in a male-female love relationship in “Men are from Mars; Women are from Venus”. In particular, men quite often have a problem actually listening and just providing a supportive space, rather than jumping in as Mr. Fix-It with a solution. In so doing, the person is not truly giving their partner what they need. Rather than providing a ground of support to their partner for healing, they don’t hear her needs and instead try to quell the sounds like they are an annoyance, out of an ego-based desire to “do a good job”.
I find it not the least bit coincidental that the highly correct statements found in the article you linked, came from a woman. They are much more connected to their heart to begin with, in my experience.
