In the post I started below I mentioned how weight loss is something huge that we can help people with (or ourselves for that matter). Thank you to trunk for bringing us back to the tao, again.
The “deep center” and the core is really where the transformation is hiding, the transformation for everyone from fat people to anorexic–we can help them. Fist, we have to help ourselves. Weight loss should not be such a complicated issue, fasting, done properly, can help. Chi nei tsang, meditation, and movement can do the rest, no? Proper nutrition is obviously a key–stay away from white bread, sugar and caffeine.
One of my friends speaks highly of the book “The Master Cleanse” by Stanley Burrows, what do you all think of this one?
So, I’m sorry if everyone got carried away with that last topic. But come back to your center and realize that this is where it all takes place, and will.

Wang Yang (who teaches weight loss qigong at Dao Mtn Aug. 19-24)
uses a neidan (inner alchemy) breathing method – originally designed for hermit meditators who didn’t want to bother with eating since they were living in remote mountain caves or huts. Its not really qigong, more neigong, since the mind is needed to internally direct the process.some clever chinese guy figured out that the method could be applied to help people lose weight. I tested the method (I am not overweight) and lost 7 pounds in 4 days. It works – if you have the discipline to do the breathing method before every meal.
She has declined to make a video of it because she thnks it would be irresponsbile – that each person had to be examined for (chinese) medical reasons of overweight and the technique modified accordingly. So no mass cure here. It might be done by warning people with diabetes, etc. to not use it except under supervision.
but I found the breathing method – withh a few modofications of my own – to be an extremely enjoyable body-centered meditation in itself. I probably useful to many other conditions that involve stagnant chi.

August 9, 2005 at 10:29 am #7149MoonglowParticipantThe Master Cleanse by Burrows is the cleanse I was on for 40 days. Not advisable to do this for that long. And too much sugar (natural maple syrup, lemon juice, water is all that you have)really upsets your body’s rythym’s and I am still fighting yeast infections throughout my body. A shorter time period is advisable and still, if you are acceptable to yeast I wouldn’t do it. Of course after I did the cleanse I found all of this info on how it breeds yeast, etc. However I was able to maintain and complete the cleanse with absolutely no cheating. I did have a whole bunch of gunk, black stuff come from out of me but it defintely played havoc with my menstruation and my natural body balance. Also, one should be aware that if you cleanse your body in such a way .. that you are willing and capable to put only clean, organic food into it afterwards, if not, well, you will pay for it. You will not feel well, get quite sick actually. I could not keep on organic food, I have way too many allergies to maintain a truly vegetarian diet, etc., etc. so …. I have put up with being “sick” for about 4 months now to dirty my system so that I can function normally, well normally in this society. Cleansing is only part of the recipe, maintaining that cleanse is another, it has to be realistic for your lifestyle.
The cleanse did bring me clarity, also realization of “so what now”. Was in void, but “so what”. I mean when you get there have you really ever thought of what you would do then. I mean I didn’t even consider it. So I just stepped away from it. I guess if I would’ve had a good trustworthy mentor I could’ve done processes that would have helped me a lot but I did not a teacher. This is the hazards of leaving the student on their own or teaching by distant methods. Some great opportunities are missed.
I did this cleanse for puerly spiritual and cleansing reasons at Easter time. However I did lose 50 lbs in 40 days. HOWEVER, once you start eating your body kicks in to gobble mode. Very, very hard to control. I must admit that I have gained all of the weight back, basically because when you create a void if there is not something to put into that void, a healthier aspect, a healthy practise, exercise, whatever … if you do not place something in it, the “old” creeps back. And Voila!! you are back to chubby self. There must be a purpose, an incentive, a drive for what you want to do. Me,… jsut wasn’t there … have been hit on head and burnt way too many time .. every time I get initiative or incentive. WHACK!! Just try not to go there much. Lost way too many valuable things …. like passion, dreams, quests. Hmmmmm, interesting.
So just because you lose weight. No frigging big deal. I can lost 50 lbs in 40 days. So what? SO WHAT? And this is what one has to heal. The actual loss of fat is not so big a deal. Just that nowadays unless you have $$$$$ you don’t get the help you need to fill the void, the mentoring required, the incentives, the support, the healing. Michael Winn’s notice of Wang Yand doing weight loss at Healing Mountain in August is fine, but hey, who has the $$ for plane fare and who has the $$ to pay for it. If I did have the $$ then I coudl afford all of the assistance I required. So everyone can say things about material things, don’t go there but get real. We live in a material world and if you don’t friggin have the money you friggin don’t have it and that is all there is to it. And along with not having $$ you don’t have qigong lessons, medical qigong classes, taiji lessons, meditation lesson, music tapes, music videos, qigong videos, qigong tapes, qigong/taiji teachers, yoga classes, yoga books, tapes, etc., etc., etc., etc. You can fumble your way thru books and tapes all you want but you and I both know you don’t truly learn taiji nor qiogng from a tape or video. It is required to “FEEL”. this is the way of true learning. And I have learned too, it doesn’t matter if you give for free, it rarely comes back to you. I have taught lots of classes for free. And I don’t see me getting taught for free. But hey, life’s a bitch.Just that please, please be aware that to offer a few suggestions to lose weight like cut back on food … is so shallow. It is like maybe 1% of the whole factor in weight gain. Only just a fraction. I proved it. For under spirit I lost 50 lbs. OUtside of spirit I gained it back. That simple. One has to heal the rest of the crap that goes along with what ou put in your mouth and baby that isn’t so simple.
I agree with Wang Yang. If you are going to treat someone then do it the right way or don’t bother. Just like the cleanse. I got rid of toxins but it weakened my body because I did not have someone mentoring me on it, no one to guide me thru it. Books are fine but the book is going to tell you when you are having a problem, they can’t see you or feel you. Or for that matter heal you.

This method is very different from any other methods of chi breathing I’ve taught, involves all three dantian, and does seem to change the body’s weight metabolism.
