Medical and Spiritual Qigong (Chi Kung)

Lately I have been getting into Clubbels and Kettlebells. This is on top of vast studies of soft qi gong.
My question is this:
Some say, drop all the hard, but I feel I need a moderate amount. In my meditations afterwords, I feel the energy coming back to my legs that seemed to get cut off from the vigorous workout. Is that normal? How much?
How does one know when TOO MUCH hard style has been practiced? Or where do we draw the line between hard and soft style?
That question is probably better answered by John Ducane on his dragondoor site, which I assume you are going to for kettlebell info.
