I have been working, soooo much time, to develop my deep abdominal (tan tien) breathing–and it works! Now, some yogis and whomever beleive that you should breath more with the upper lungs and chest area as well.
Where do we draw the line between breathing to the tan tien and other centers?
It seems such activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (thus sexual arousal) although very healthy and blissful when it works, can also be a problem (for me at least) i.e. always thinking about sex! Not that there is anything wrong with that, but now I find it hard to communicate with attractive girls because I either make a “MOVE” (most of the time failing as I am too centered in the lower TT rather than middle or upper) or I am beating around the “BUSH” and talking about things that have NO WORDS.
It is hard to do the alchemical path without a live teacher who you respect as a true master!
Meanwhile, I get throbing erections when I just HANG OUT with attractive girls who are my friends…ver embarassing as I have to hide it somehow and then may get nervous!
This is such a funny confusion I am having!?!?!
But seriously though, its NOT funny for meeeee!

hahahahahaSeptember 23, 2005 at 6:15 am #7838PietroParticipantBruce works a lot on breathing, and I think you should not mix at this level chinese and indian practices. In the HT breathing is considered important but not fundamental and that essentially ‘it will take care of itself’.
I followed a wonderful seminar from BK on breathing in Tai Ji. Maybe you could do something similar (Although he teaches different subject, so the same subject might not appear again in the same continent for years). He also sells a cd on breathing that guides through the stages beyond the basic deep breathing. I would HEAVILY suggest that you buy it and hear it.
On the other hand he a taoist but is not teaching alchemy, yet he is a tacher and a master, so you have to see if he fits what you are looking for.
BTW: one of the thing I leraned from his was to breath with the back of the lungs while keeping the front of the chest still. This hasa good effect on the heart that is thus massaged.

I don’t understand the question, you start by breathing in the TT. The you expand it so that after some time you breath with the whole body. Meanwhile, the transition from tan tien to “whole body” breathing uncclear to me. At what point do you know your ready? I sapose I have been practicing lesser Kan and Li for some time now, but does that mean now I should enter into greater? MYSTic heart breathing? Sounds right?

There needs to be some balanced center development along the way, imo. The lower tan tien definately (generally) needs more work, at least for the simple reason that its denser. You just need to steer your own ship, and know that its ok to include other centers for balance.

Maybe in the beginning someone says, “just breathe in the lower tan tien (ltt)” and you do, and its progressive but not really smooth. So, you activate more centers, let that develope, and come back to just ltt breathing: hey!, its smoother. Same with opening the macrocosmic orbit, the thrusting and central channels, and developing each tan tien more deeply, doing some fascia work, and learn to open and close the joints. You come back to “just ltt breathing” and, wow!, its a lot smoother. Pay attention to balanced development. Things add up.

According to this 4 dimensional life art training at tao mountain, they teach that the lower tt is the center for heaven and earth. Heart center is the center for male and female. And upper tan tien: future and past.
Clearly its a balance and I need to “steer my own ship” as per your advice, trunk.
Some teachers say that abdominal breathing should become the “normal” way of breathing, and generaly I think we can all agree that is true? Although it depends on situations, such as if one is having sex! Or?
In the book “Guidlines to Life” by Taoist Master Michael Frost, he teaches that immortality can only be reached when one is making REVERSE breathing their normal method for breathing.

In the book.. >I think that its dangerous to get fixated on any one technique. If you feel a technique is assisting your cultivation to progress, good! But – even with an excellent technique – its periodically necesary to vary things, to produce rounded development. At least that’s what I’ve found with my practice; yours may vary. 🙂

I have not much experience with K&L. In general for Taoist techniques when you can practice something always, when when you are sleeping and making love, when you have fully integrated in your being, what when you move to the next step.
The reason why the transition from tan tien to “whole body” breathing is unclear is because it has not been treated. And in that school you are not supposed to just be the little experimenter (and try things out too much yourself). Bruce explained in a workshop in Germany last year how to do it. But it took one week of strainous training (and he said that it was the first time he explained it), and it would not do any good neither to you nor to me if I tried to condensate one week of teaching and trasmission in a single online post. But one thing that was explained to us very carefully was that if a person tried to breath with the whole body not in the right sequence, not following the right steps, chances were that his energetic body would not all be awaken and reached by the qi, but the qi would make a ‘body with holes’ a little like gruviera cheese. At that point to go back and take away those wholes is much harder than making the body right in the first place, and sometimes impossible (thus putting an upper limit on the possible progress of a person). For this reason we were very much warned against going too fast or trying to teach those practices before time. Thus I am not teaching you, I am pointing you to a source of teachings you might find interesting.

Yup, I remember my raging hormone puberty too. Ouch!
I had very strong religious beliefs that did not allow me to have sex outside of marriage, so it was my salvation to finally get married at the age of 23. Yeah i wasn’t a 40 year old virgin , but after 23 years it felt waaay longer LOL. Wow, what a blessing that was;0)
Personally i think it is not very good to go too long without sex. it is truly a gift from the Divine.
IMHO, The catch is that it is not healthy in the long run to just have sex with anyone at anytime. It is preferable to have a solid long term loving relationship.
That being said, another alternative is to go deeply into what some call self intercourse.
You love your self through the Heart centre.
This is a very powerful method, that can take you towards the Dao.
If you do it right you should find that your ego starts to dissolve.
This process can become very upsetting to some, so ideally, you should have some safe way of being willing to truly surrender your self. Usually a Teacher, Guide or Guru, is what helps at this stage.
On the other hand if you really understand what i mean, then you can also do it alone.
When you make it to the other side……, then erections around pretty girls will be by choice – and nervousness a distant dream;0)

All the way from simply opening up tissue and getting good circulation, blending, to various methods of focusing on light.. First by working with the radiance of a center, and gradually learning to connect that radiance with deeper levels of Light. Complements of the usual.

September 28, 2005 at 10:31 am #7862JernejParticipantI am wondering what is the reason why he teaches breathing through third eye and not crown as a form of later heaven breathing, which after breathing with full torso is stabilized into empty force breathing of lower dan tien.
His scematics of central channels clearly show it should be crown. Also his martial arts book points this in eight phases description.
There is a safe way to practice it.
Continual practices of microcosmic orbit points, or inner smile lines, or Kumar’s external dissolving along central, left and right central channels will eventually evolve into effordless (later heaven) breathing practice. -
