I have to say, Steven is pretty much a rock star when it comes to responses on the forum. I’d say he is the Healing Tao USA Forum Sage…
Also Steven, belated congratulations for joining the roster for the Healing Tao retreats instructors! That’s like getting called up to the big leagues, working along side the soon-to-be-immortals…

frechtling replied to the topic Chi Kung for insomnia in the forum Practice 11 years, 3 months ago
When I first started doing the 6 Healing Sounds, I would do them right before going to bed. I would do the first 5 sitting, then the last one while laying in bed (w/o hand movement). I would usually be out before I got three breaths in. Of course, I don’t usually have a problem falling asleep so I’m not the best baseline; just thought I’d add…[Read more]

frechtling replied to the topic Michael Winn healing kidneys in the forum Practice 11 years, 3 months ago
I’m also guessing that Michael discovered the Iron Shirt packing method and went nuts with it. In his article “The Gentle, Easy Way to Pack Your Iron Shirt,” he talks about how he started popping blood vessels in his chest because he packed so forcefully. I know they teach Iron Shirt differently now and don’t emphasize the packing. From what I…[Read more]

frechtling replied to the topic Deep Healing QiGong Effects in the forum Practice 11 years, 4 months ago
I’m sure Steven will have a much more detailed explanation, but my guess would be what they call a “healing crisis.” From what I understand that is a detox effect in which it gets worse before it gets better. I have not practiced the Deep Healing Qigong so I can’t speak to that specifically.

frechtling replied to the topic length of practice in the forum Practice 11 years, 6 months ago
To add to what Steven said about accumulating practices, I have found that once I have practiced a qigong movement for long enough (the Taoists recommend 100 days, but I usually make sure it is a few months), I feel it deeply in my energy body or as Michael says I “own the practice.” When I move to the next form, I do not continue to regularly…[Read more]

frechtling replied to the topic Counterforce Breathing in the forum General 11 years, 9 months ago
Thanks for your detailed descriptions of the breating methods and bone breathing! This will help greatly with my QF4 practice. I’m going to “chew on” this for a while before adding QF3.
I have been going through the DVD bit by bit and finally got to do them all in sequence over the weekend. I only spent a short amount of time on each one,…[Read more]

frechtling replied to the topic Counterforce Breathing in the forum General 11 years, 10 months ago
Well, it sort of makes sense, but understanding this is not that important to me right now. I figure I’ll learn it later from QF3. I just remember what I sort of understood from Chia’s description in Iron Shirt I is that it seemed like you were almost flexing your abdomen to prevent it from expanding, so the internal pressure acted to pack the…[Read more]

So what is the difference between counterforce and reverse breathing (simple explanation)? Thanks!

frechtling replied to the topic Counterforce Breathing in the forum General 11 years, 10 months ago
Thanks Steven, good explanation as always. I see how this correlates with the navel counterforce movement, in which the hand motion is compressing (the chi ball) while you are breathing in and vice versa, which is actually the opposite of ocean breathing. This should help me out while doing the standing postures and movements.
To follow up on…[Read more]

That was really cool. I’d love to see the movement of our solar system relative to the other systems surrounding us, the Milky way, and other galaxies as well.

frechtling replied to the topic Sleepiness at work in the forum General 11 years, 10 months ago
I know it is because of the kids, but right now there are things that are important that I don’t even get to do in the evening. If I get to cuddle with my 2 year old for 15 minutes before she goes to bed, that is way more important to me than even doing dishes or washing the baby bottles.
I also cherish the little bits of extra sleep (or…[Read more]

Yes Steven, I know I have years upon years of not getting enough sleep. Having twin babies and a commute to work don’t help that at all. Currently I don’t have much choice unless I want to come in to work later, but then that means less time at home in the evening. But as it turns out I am not actually getting much less than I was before the…[Read more]

frechtling replied to the topic Artificial wombs: sexless reproduction society in our future? (article) in the forum General 11 years, 11 months ago
Even if this does end up really working somewhere down the line, I don’t see it ever becoming mainstream or very common at all. Sounds like a very expensive process that any woman who drinks or takes drugs during pregnancy won’t be able to afford anyway. And women who end up needing abortions will still get pregnant and have abortions. Not to…[Read more]

Steven-not to derail your mathematical philosophizing, but Bagua makes a good point that the natural Way is to live and die. You don’t see immortal plants and animals but a continuous cycle.
