Michael,
Thanks for the response. And I think I understand the distinction you’re making (hopefully with my heart mind!). I could argue some more about semantics but I won’t. What I’d rather do is understand with a concrete example without trying to label the experience.

Two Q&A’s From Dr. Weil’s site. Found this and thought you might be interested.
Rethinking Advice on Soy?
Im aware of Internet paranoia on the subject of soy and the contention that only fermented soy is safe to consume. That is simply not true. Some of the best forms of soy – edamame, tofu and soy nuts – are unfermented and are much…[Read more]

Hey Craig,
I was into Rice Milk for a while and agree with the food combining analysis. My issue with Rice Milk is that it’s overly sweet. What I liked about soy milk is you could find it without sugar, and I thought it didn’t really have enough protein in it to screw you up with combining with cereal.
About “fresh soy milk” — are you…[Read more]

Thanks. I actually go through phases where I eat a lot of ice cream too, so you’ve given me — dare I say it? — even more food for thought.
Thanks.

“stand up and imagine your head is a balloon and the rest of your body and limbs are dangling strings. Walk around the room as if this were true. Interesting stuff. The soy milk I drink is made from organic soybeans, filtered water and vanilla, and that’s about it.
So there’s no genetic engineering or pesticide problem. Somehow I doubt there’s a hexane problem either.
That leaves the enzyme/protein inhibitor/hormonal stuff inherent in non-fermented soybeans that the site warns…[Read more]

“soymilk, which is very cold/yin and one of the worst things for your practice and your stomach fire”
I’ve been drinking A LOT of soymilk lately (westsoy unsweetened vanilla to be precise). It’s become pretty much my fluid of choice. So I’m a little concerned about the above quote from Michael.

Some interesting things said by others in this threat. Thanks.
My own sleep cycle fluctuates depending not just on my practice but on other aspects of my life (e.g., how hard I’m working at my job, how much stress I’m under, how much exercise I’ve gotten).
I generally hover between 6 and 7 hours a night. this is down from between 7 and 8…[Read more]

I’m not sure I agree with master Yoda. All those things are generally good for you. But I think exercise and sunshine (e.g., a day at the beach) can be kind of draining. They are chi EXPENDING activities.
When you come, you’ve already expended a lot. So I don’t hot sunshine or vigerous exercise would be my top two reccomendations.…[Read more]
