If you are accelerating, you are NOT in an inertial reference frame.

Special relativity says that the speed of light is constant with respect to all inertial reference frames (i.e. frames that are not accelerating or in a gravity field, but are free to move at constant velocities with respect to each other).
General relativity extends these basic rules beyond the inertial reference frame model and concerns the…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Tai Chi more popular that Chi Kung in the forum General 10 years, 7 months ago
I think it is because Tai Chi doubles as a martial art; it capitalized off of the notoriety of Kung Fu in popular culture as being the “internal cousin” that is also good for your health. Even to this day, you see movies like “Man of Tai Chi”, “Tai Chi Hero”, etc.
Also, Tai Chi looks more “appealing” as a performance art. It has more of a…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Snake Handler Dies: Year of Snake Dies? in the forum General 10 years, 8 months ago
Volunteering to handle poisonous snakes is about as stupid as deciding to open a “scorpion petting zoo”. It amazes me that there are idiots out there that think this is a good idea. You know a “religion” is successful when it is able to override people’s common sense.
However, I guess I can’t be terribly surprised, as most modern religions…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Recapitulation & taoist meditation in the forum Practice 10 years, 8 months ago
Basically the whole Scientology religion was a money-making scheme (a fairly successful one) by L. Ron Hubbard.
Many years ago, he and a buddy were arguing about how there were so many “self-help” books on the market that were making money. Hubbard said that basically anybody can write a self-help book, so his buddy challenged him to write…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic 100 days? in the forum Practice 10 years, 8 months ago
If you are using the 100 days as a learning tool, i.e. “I want to learn XYZ qigong form”, then I would count the 100 days as being 100 actual days of practice. In other words, if you miss some days here or there, then you might reach day 100 on the 137th day. Thus, you need to actually have had 100 days of actual practice. It is clear that need…[Read more]

I tend to agree with both snowlion and Diogo at the same time.
I am pleased to see that Healing Tao is starting to get more recognition. Often it has been the case that it is not mentioned, despite it being one of the most comprehensive systems of applied Daoism around.
On the other hand, it was also clear that the author is not a…[Read more]

Hi c_howdy,
Thanks for the review.
I see that it has already been published here in the US (since 2011), so I am going to order the book myself.I sort of find the topic fascinating, because I do think that cold is good for your health (lowers blood pressure, stabilizes blood sugar, makes you more alert, etc.). The body is constantly…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Tendon Nei Kung (neigong) in the forum Practice 10 years, 9 months ago
All three of the Tai Chi forms are quite different from each other.
Tai Chi 1 is mostly based on one of the Yang family branches. Having done various different Yang forms over the years, the Tai Chi 1 form is probably closest to the large frame category, although not necessarily an exact fit. Probably 2/3 of the other Yang forms I’ve done…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Correct directions in arm and leg slapping in Chi Self Massage in the forum Practice 10 years, 9 months ago
Typically you start at the torso and then work your way down the limb, and then reversing it you travel back up toward the torso.
Personally, I don’t know that it makes a terrible difference in how you do it.
For me, it feels better to my body to do the recommended protocol, but you might experiment and see what feels best to you.

Hi Jeff,
I will be teaching Tai Chi Qigong this summer at Michael’s Healing Tao Retreats! I invite you to enroll. No Tai Chi experience of any kind is required.
There are three official Tai Chi Qigong forms in the Healing Tao.
So just like Iron Shirt, there are 3 levels: Tai Chi 1, 2, and 3.In my summer course, I will be teaching…[Read more]

Exactly.
Getting really grounded, becoming aware of what you need through inner listening, what your intention is, and what you are going to practice is the cornerstone to really creating effective positive changes, in my experience.
The good news is, is that the more you practice, the more you learn about yourself, and subsequently through…[Read more]

It can really go either way, depending on your intention, the type of practices that you are doing, and your own awareness of your own instability.
If you are emotionally ungrounded, but you are oblivious to this . . . and you just try to do qigong and/or meditation . . . then it can amplify the negative emotion. The extra qi you generate just…[Read more]

However, maybe they don’t have a built-in aging mechanism and only die due to fire, injury, etc. ?List of oldest trees:
