Steven replied to the topic Speed of light may not be constant (article) in the forum General 11 years, 6 months ago
There are lots of different models;
the only question is, is to whether or not they can
be experimentally verified.Much of physics seems to rest on the idea of having
Model A, having experimental results consists with
model A, model A is then adopted. Mathematics, laws,
and physical phenomena are described in terms of Model A.
Then…[Read more] -
Steven replied to the topic Speed of light may not be constant (article) in the forum General 11 years, 6 months ago
Of course, if you are right, no such measured difference would be observed . . .
But this is, of course, supposition. It is very well possible that alpha = 1/137 + epsilon, where epsilon
is some very tiny perturbation dependent on space-time geometry or
who knows what else.Of course, there is this “Electric Universe” model that…[Read more]

And this is the perfect example of someone
with an imbalance in the other direction . . .
namely too much compassion for others and a general
lack of concern for oneself; trying to satisfy some
“greater good” by dis-valuing one’s own life.No one alive knows . . . what happens to your consciousness
upon death. NO ONE.If someone…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic Spining the body during meditation – Is it OK? in the forum Practice 11 years, 6 months ago
There is nothing “wrong” with what is happening.
The body will simply do what it feels it needs to do,
to accommodate the energy flow that you are experiencing.
This is an example of what is called “spontaneous qigong”.It seems to me that the reason why the energy is
making your body move is due to its intensity,
perhaps amplified by…[Read more] -

When I see others with a different destiny,
and that destiny is causing them a great deal
of unhappiness and possibly even suffering, I
feel compelled to be empathetic–to be supportive–
so that they feel more empowered to deal with
their situation and possibly shift it to a new
destiny. Is this not virtue?Simply working on…[Read more]

I agree that “morality” is a different beast altogether.
It involves arbitrary social rules that don’t necessarily
serve an intrinsic good . . . my view of the external
expression of virtue is more one of attitude divorced
from any of these artificial constructs.I also agree with your assessment that the personal self
is not…[Read more] -
Steven replied to the topic Speed of light may not be constant (article) in the forum General 11 years, 6 months ago
You are missing my point.
It may very well be constant on Earth (roughly),
where space-time is (roughly) the same.
It may not be as you move elsewhere.
Unless experiments are done in other locations in
the universe, it may only be a local approximation. An inertial system is an idealized situation.
Nothing is truly an inertial…[Read more] -
Steven replied to the topic Speed of light may not be constant (article) in the forum General 11 years, 6 months ago
Did you actually read the article?
Lots of areas of physics disagree with each other, e.g.
general relativity and quantum physics . . .There needs to be a larger model that incorporates it all.
It seems to me to be possible that speed of light could be
effectively constant, but varies to a small degree dependent
on the structure of…[Read more] -
Steven replied to the topic Cultivating Qi vs. Cultivating Wisdom in the forum Philosophy 11 years, 6 months ago
I don’t agree with the assessment that “de” is integrity.
Virtue and integrity are different things.
Virtue implies behavior that is harmonious with the collective.
Integrity simply implies behavior that is self-harmonious,
behavior in which you do not violate your own core truths.I would agree that integrity is important, but I think…[Read more]

Steven replied to the topic length of practice in the forum Practice 11 years, 6 months ago
Ultimately, you have to find out what works for you
and your lifestyle. Everybody’s different. For years, I struggled to try to do a consistent
morning practice and always failed. A lot of folks
say that you should do practices early in the morning, right
when you get up, but for me it was always a struggle.
I’m not a morning person,…[Read more] -

Steven replied to the topic Chi Gong and counting in the forum Practice 11 years, 6 months ago
There are definitely a few special forms such as Primordial, where
the numerology has a strong significance. In those cases,
it is good to be consistent in the application. However, IN GENERAL, I don’t find it to be terribly important,
especially when the number exceeds 10.Often the historical reason for such numbers like 36 or 72…[Read more]
