Why is it that men shave their body hair? Did I miss a turning point in male behavior? Do they become more sensitive because of their hairless skin? Or is this an attempt to weaken men making them believe that hairy body parts are less attractive, even disgusting?

I assume you are mainly talking about american white males. I also assume you did most of your dating in the 70s and 80s. What is sexy changes all the time and with the on set of the internet porn sites what is need to get that turned on feeling changes rapidly. Yes, speaking from an European-American angle, as a 40 year old I say:
I find body hair ‘attractive’ for a man, and talking with women here, most more mature women like it, young women dislike it.

After the second world war, people were shaven publically to punish them and to mark them as whores or traitors.
Monks and nuns shave their hair as an act of their trust and surrendering to god, and in many religions their vow to celibacy (i am sorry if this is not rightly spelled)
In Islam and Judaism women cover up their hair because it is representing their sexual energy which is not to be seen by others.
ETcetera.Anyway I hope that for some men it is something to think about and believe me there are women on this planet that LIKE hair for the obvious reason that hair is one of the expressions of masculin strength and therefore very attractive for women who can stand next to a powerfull man. So to all men, if a woman dislikes your body hair be carefull and look for the other needles. Make sure it is not an attempt to bring you down to her level of low self esteem. Encourage her to stretch herself, to feel better about herself without knocking you down. And if you want a woman to shave herself, be very well aware you ask her to bow, so be very pure in your feelings…

I think my point was missed but thats ok. I was trying to point to the roots of this issue as I see it. I assume that one of the big factors for this trend is keeping sex in the mind and genetals I.E. porn, magazines, tv, it just takes more and more to turn you on. The next would be issues with acceptents I.E. culture, personal. I also feel there is a very practical reason for men to ask weman to shave around there genatals. If you are dating outside your race (and I hope so) you will face this and other great issues. You have to pick your battles. The hair thing may not be a big deal for the guy or the girl. I think your right, using your body in loving rituals, is a helpful, and powerful tool. You are right people can use a tool we have created to try to control, and hurt us. Thats why I find it important to remember who gives the power and who can reclaim it. Lets smile to hair, lets smile to not having hair, lets smile to people who want us to shave, and lets smile to poeple who want us to keep it.:)
