I had the opportunity to see an Ordained Daoist Priest talk and demonstrate some Qigong. She has a Doctorate from the International Institute of Medical Qigong and the Overseas College of Medical Qigong and a member of the national Quigong association. She studied in the Qingcheng Mountains with a woman Dao Master. The presentation was very educational and I appreciated the opportunity.
After the meeting I went up to her and told her I am a Associate Healing Tao Instructor and had studied with Mantak Chia, Michael Winn, and Minke De Voss. Maybe to indicate that we had Taoism in common. She then told me that Mantak Chia wouldn’t reveal key information since he was Chinese. Also as far as contacting the Big Dipper, you couldn’t from his information since it entailed having someone tell you exactly the star you related to, what time of day to contact, and to have a particular incantation to recite. My point of relating this being there seems to be some dissonance or even competition between different Tao lineages. Is my impression correct?
One: Like Christianity, there are many different versions of Daoism out there. Many folks in a particular branch like to think their understanding is somehow superior.
Two: As one’s “credentials” increase, so often does the ego as well.
I find it interesting that she says Chia “won’t reveal key information” when that is what his whole purpose is, to share every piece of information with as many people possible. At least that is my impression…
I know who she is, very nice serious practitioner, doing good work. But as a student of jerry alan johnson, she’s likely been initiated into the Zhengyi sect, aka Celestial Masters. They really only teach social-ritual alchemy, not personal alchemy. The female abbot she mentioned from Mt. Qingcheng I know very well for many years,she is from a different sect,Quanzhen, Complete Perfection. The two don’t mix in China, it is westerners who are mixing them together.
Then of course, there is the Changbaishan path, which is the Healing Tao lineage, which belongs to NEITHER. So it’s pointless to do any name calling between different paths. Which reminds me, I neglected to post link to my last newsletter on Changbaishan.
