Hi Michael, good to see you back! I have been having a recent discussion lately about the kundalini and Taoist practice, my firend was quite convinced that Shakti (kundalini) is reffered to as Shen by the taoists and the kundalini is when you reach the chi to Shen phase of the jing-chi-shen process.I however felt that the kundalini force is the yuan chi and the real difference between yogic practice and Taoist practice is that the yogis don’t run the orbit to bring the energy back down they pump it out the head.I would love to ehar what you have to say about the kundalini, and if it is different from chi etc. THANKS!!

This may cause brain centered hallucinations, etc. These are generally fire and water imbalances at the five phase (fusioni) level, not to be confused with primal fire and water engaged with lesser kan and li process. True kundalini in my opinion would be an awakening of the primal Water yin shen (unconscious/potential state) hidden within the jing level. When it awakens its becomes yang or Fiery. Hence taoist term, yang hidden with the yin. This can be triggered by methodical cultivation, or can happen spontaneously or accidentailly, usually with some meditative trigger. Gopi Krishna, author of the first modern book on kundalini, triggered it accidentally and couldn't stop it for eleven years. It drove him a bit crazy until he found he could stop it by eating meat (i.e. getting more grounded). The function of the yuan jing/chi/shen is to stabilize the process, i.e. Fire and Water alone are volatile and not stable until the orginal consciousness crystallizes (Immortal embryo). Trinity / triangle is stability. This is clear in both hindu and taoist cosmology. Intersecting triangles of sri yantra, trinity of jing-chi-shen refining each other at different levels/dimensions (later, early, primordial heavens). michael

So where does the kundalini fit into the Taoist practice specifically the healing tao, is it the lesser kan and li that awakens it? What does it have to do with immortality, in other words, in your opinion what is its function in our development?
May 21, 2005 at 5:33 am #5786Michael WinnKeymasterKundalini is hindu term, thought by some scholars to be linked to root term Chandra, for moon, suggesting pull of moon on deep sexual forces.
Most indian practitioners take it as a one-way ride up the spine. That is partial view in my belief and experience. Other half is the descending current, ie full orbit. So all the healng tao practices are ultimately designed to balance yin-yang flow at increasing powerful levels.
The initial orbit is just laying a pathway down for future development. So “opening the orbit” is a progressive process, and same can be said of kundalini – it s just another way of describing jingi-chi-shen transformation of alchemy. You start with a small trickling stream, eventually it matures into a deep river.
