atxryan replied to the topic Vote-Blocking Will Determine Presidential Election Outcome in the forum General 16 years ago
In one of the Constitutional plans people did not vote for the president, they voted for the house and the house voted for the president. i think that’s how it was, but that could be wrong. point is, it wasn’t direct election.

I made a mistake in assigning the people who run crucible.org the label of ‘western’ alchemists. it appears that they have done research into many traditions, including Chinese. i don’t know how to put into words the next thing i was going to say, but perhaps you though of it too 🙂

I’ve been considering taking it myself. Here are two sites with information:
According to the article index, the first one was written by Dr. Robert Becker, not Mantak Chia:
http://www.universal-tao.com/article/colloidal_silver.html
And here’s a site operated by western alchemists that sells colloidal silver and gold and some other things and…[Read more] -

I liked that translation, thanks. It also reminds me of the translation of Way-Making.

Something i think that’s important to remember when people talk about the “original Chinese” version of the Tao Te Ching is that there are various Chinese versions which can say different things.
I opened my copy of the Tao Te Ching, Ellen M. Chen translation and commentary (1989). Here’s the first stanza of the first chapter as she translated…[Read more]

I don’t know if Descartes was ‘right’ in his statement ‘i think, therefore i am.’ remember also that he came to that statement by trying to find a basis for science. last Spring in my philosophy class we had assignment where we would read things then answer questions about them. in class we read descartes, but we could also do an extra credit…[Read more]

cool, that reminds me of something that Fong Ha said about effortlessness in Taijiquan practice. He was comparing the effortlessness of the opening movement to the effortlessness of driving a car.

Thank you Steve and Michael for your responses. I get confused over this whole yin activity and yang activity thing, being that yin and yang are in each other. Practicing 5 animals qigong could be considered a yin activity because it’s doing things with the body, and a yang activity because of the movement. sitting and doing a mental meditation…[Read more]

I was under the impression that it would be unwise to start new endeavors during Autumn and (more so) Winter. What is your (anyone’s) opinion on this? If you think that is correct, do you think that the Equinox and even Winter Solstice are exceptions?
Thanks

Matt,
I didn’t want to leave you hangin’ so hears a quick response, i’ll post a more detailed one within the next week so please keep checking back here. Qing gong is often translated as “light skills”. This is when people can jump really really really high, run up and alongside walls, walk in sand with no traces, and run atop trees. People with…[Read more] -

You probably know this, but it’s worth adding that there are methods of transmutation within Xingyiquan, Taijiquan, and i think in Baguazhang too. And once you have done practices like Healing Love (which I think is the main differentiation between northern and southern Taoist alchemy methods), then this of course takes the arts to new levels.…[Read more]
