And the chewing.
Rabbits might be great pets in Asheville but I wouldn’t recommend them in a small apartment. They chew EVERYTHING, poop somewhat indiscriminately, and molt a few times a year. (Molting by the way is not like a cat shedding, it’s like 50 cat’s shedding).
No disrespect to Lopolani or any other member of his species, but…[Read more]

I don’t know much about Orr. I read some of his free essays on his site and thought they were simplistic.
But I really like that quote you copied, and it is in accord with my own understanding of the various divisions.
What is his “course” all about?

Hey Chris.
I wonder if you could talk more about your “soaking” technique. I’m not really sure I get it. What do you do exactly?
Do you look at your random thought and kind of mentally move it into your cauldron (like, “Oh, yes, here I am thinking about the bills, let me just picture them dropping into the pot . . . “)?

Thanks for all the responses. However, I’m still wrestling with my central issue.
Just to be clear on a few things I said before, I DO understand the value of the watching the breath method — and I practice it. My issue is not that I can’t calm my mind while watching the breath.
My issue is how to maintain focus when I’m doing a more…[Read more]

Id like to shift the discussion a bit on Buddhist empty mind/daoist stillness and, in doing so, move this a bit from the philosophical to the practical.
One frustration that I have with any meditative practice is the monkey mind issue. That is, the fact that often my mind cant seem focus on anything (or nothing) for more than 15 sec…[Read more]

It was both informative and heartwarming.
Indeed, your post above, and your earlier post about lineage seeking its own fullfillment and expansion, stand as two nice bookends to the whole discussion about the legitimacy of healing tao teachings.
Thanks.

Before I get to my point, I can’t resist pointing out that, after saying it can’t be discussed on an intellectual level, Max then procedes to describe what “the whole thing comes down to” in a very intellectual way.
Regardless of Max’s inconsistency, I think he raises a reasonable question, which really comes back to the the issue of…[Read more]
