I stay until<br /><br /> mid-February, then go back north to get some more Winter-water. To<br /><br /> remind new readers, I don’t come down here to vacation, or escape<br /><br /> the cold North, which I actually love. I come down because my<br /><br /> kidney spirit wants to immerse itself in the water element in the<br /><br /> winter time. I could instead make snow angels and take a lot of<br /><br /> baths up north.</p><br /> <p>But swimming a mile and half everyday across the Bay you see in the<br /><br /> photo above is more powerful. As I swim, I do my own custom<br /><br /> designed kidney-breathing qigong, drinking in the Great Mother into<br /><br /> my ming men, the Door of Life. The mingmen is located between the<br /><br /> two kidneys, and is often called “the moving chi between the two<br /><br /> kidneys”. Why focus my water-breathing qigong there?</p><br /> <p>Because the ming men is where the Original Breath, or yuan chi,<br /><br /> enters the body. Yuan chi is the building block of our body, just<br /><br /> as it is for all of nature. But the first thing it does when it<br /><br /> enters the body is to convert itself into Watery Kidney chi, which<br /><br /> then in turn gets distributed to the other organ spirits. </p><br /> <p>So Water is the First amongst the five elements, it is the Queen of<br /><br /> the five elements. The heart Fire is the nominal Ruler, but is<br /><br /> really more its spiritual role. Our body is 75% water, so it’s<br /><br /> clear who is really in charge. It’s the Zhi, the water spirit that<br /><br /> rules the kidneys and bones and blood and sexual fluids. The Zhi<br /><br /> can be translated as “the Will to Embody”.</p><br /> <p>Here the key point: the Zhi loves the wet and cold, it is nourished<br /><br /> by winter. That may be one factor why the smallest tribe in the<br /><br /> world, the Pygmies, live near in Africa near the warm equator. And<br /><br /> the tallest (on average) people in the world are the Dutch, in cold<br /><br /> northern Europe. Its the same in China. The tall big boned<br /><br /> Manchurians live in the cold north, and the small-framed short<br /><br /> Cantonese live in the warm south.</p><br /> <p>But you don’t have to get your body physiclaly wet and cold – ithe<br /><br /> Zhi can sense it all around you, it is in constant communication<br /><br /> witht the larger field of Nature. Even my refrige knows when its<br /><br /> cold outside and takes less gas to operate (I don’t like the noise<br /><br /> from electric refrigerators). it doesn’t care about if the inside<br /><br /> temperature is the same as in summer – the elementals in it KNOW<br /><br /> when it winter.</p><br /> <p>So let’s get practical: which qigong is the best to practice in<br /><br /> winter?
