Winter Solstice is like the peak of a super slow-motion solar eclipse. At its darkest moment, a burst of light emerges, as if combusting from within. Energetically, the Yin half of Earth’s annual cycle – June 21 to Dec. 21 – is actually compressing the Dark Light until it implodes and reverses to expand for six months.

Solstices reflect a universal Yin-Yang Qi cycle of dark light and white light transforming into each other. Qi can be perceived as sound, light, or vibration. Yin-Yang Qi appear to be opposites. In reality Yin-Yang are different sides of the same coin. They arise from a single Clear Light that pulses into a stable harmonic of polarity so that forms become tangible. This Source Qi, a.k.a. Yuan Qi (“Original Breath”), is like a Clear Light that shines most powerfully on Solstice and Equinox. Do a ceremony or meditate to capture it – you will be richly rewarded!

Dear Lovers of Winter Solstice and True Darkness,

Here we are again – Nature gently nudging us to dive beyond our normal limits, deeper into a wintry darkness that many of the Big Religions claim as close to the root of their spiritual truth.

It’s puzzling. It’s not “evil dark”. Rather it’s the “other” dark: mysteriously pure, exquisite stillness, infinite deep oceanic vastness, exhilarating calm, cosmic womb-warm feeling – all synergistically wrapped around our soul. Perhaps the only dark space in which our personality feels safe in being drowned. We somehow know we will re-birth, and live to tell the story of yet another cycle.

Taoist process is about our small cycles within these great cycles. I love all the Solstices and Equnoxes, but Winter Solstice is my clear favorite. I’ve reminded readers many times that the full or new moon BEFORE any solstice or equinox amplifies its power.

The full moon last week was exceptionally powerful for me. I spontaneously combusted a new process of inner alchemy – a new way to created a sustained and grounded resonance between my personal heart and the heart of the Sun (Solar Logos). Wow! I am amazed at the infinite richness of Tao process. Attune to the Qi, the Qi will educate, guide, transform, amuse, tittilate, reform, uphold, righteously punish, harmonize and balance our every thought, feeling, sensation and perception.

Winter Solstice has inspired me to write a lot about this event and its various aspects. I’m listing a “retrospective” of all my Winter Solstice newsletters, in case you choose to browse and enjoy them.

My favorite qigong vessel is Primordial Tai Chi for Enlightened Self-love. But many others work great, and I often combine forms. Doing something to increase your focus and strengthen your intent – that is the key.
