Thanks for this link snowlion. I am not an avid Potter fan but the article gave me more a valued perspective of art. I need transformation to properly enjoy theater or movies and while they can run the risk of Disneyfication, really good art openly invites me into another’s death and resurrection. It is life affirming and transcendent.
My favorite memory as a Jewish child was waiting through the tale of Dicken’s 1954 version of Christmas Carol each year. I would be alone early on a silent Xmas morning in my house in front of the TV.
I would ache as Scrooge unleashed a heart stopping scream as he fell on top of his own grave before his time. He had a choice and chose transformation.
His gait and voice and heart so exploded upon his awakening my own heart took flight. Who could help but feel better by the end? Yet I have many friends who hate such art…as too ‘feel good’…but it is alchemical. Bar
