I have to agree with you.
Many pointless arguments crop up around a simple question of language.
One person sees Tai Chi as a historical martial art founded only by the Chen family and passed on through members to other students.
Another person goes along with the Chang Sang Feng lineage which originally called the art Wu Dang Kungfu although it is clearly similar to other styles of Tai Chi.
Yet another person sees Tai Chi in a broader context as chi kung applied to martial arts or taoist kungfu. The words wu ji and Tai chi chuan are so evocative in this sense – primordial pugilism – they do not refer to a founder and suggest something with an ancient pedigree.
There is more to it than imagination however, there are many charlatans out there and if you follow one of these, imagination alone will not mean you are on an authentic path. Reality can be a sobering correcter of distorted imagination.
