“So self-dissolving is a male political-control concept to me, as much as a spiritual one.”
Thanks for your historical summary, it makes a lot of sense. I agree with what you said, except that when you get down to it there is really no separation between politics and religion is there? They are both belief systems, and if there is a reason for one or both to be male-centered and controlling, then there is a spiritual reason behind both, true? All manifestation is influenced by the connection or separation from the inner realms; so maybe it is more of a contrast between the factions that are connected and those that are separated.

The root word is “magh,” it means “power,” and, yes, it is Sumerian. And all these words are derived from it:
Magic Mage Magi Magus Magnificent Magnanimous Magnetism Magistrate Majestic Master Mister Image Imagination…
…you get the idea.

But don’t get me wrong… we are ‘overwhelmed’ by feminine energy, in fact almost suffocating, everywhere you see breasts, belly’s, naked body’s, women dressed like a christmas tree, it is a ‘normal’ counter reaction of the surpressed energy, ‘feminity’ is splashing all over…creating even more splitting inside of women if you don’t know where to look inside yourself.
I am still digging myself, shifting through layers of time: past, present and future!
Never mind, your friends are probably doing a great job, I like belly dance a lot.
So, time will come that women no longer have the need to ‘expose’ themselves to get the rightful place they deserve.
As long as the music and glamour industry keeps promoting their way of feminity as the one to persue, our Western women and daughters still have a long way to go.So lets hope your friends are counter balancing the counter balance from their deepest memory, a very very long time ago from a very inner place, I wish them luck.

Well I don't know, there should be a million ways of being a woman and there seem to be only a couple. I think if women can put their sexual power out there in a way *they* decide, that makes all the difference, that's why tribal belly dance is cool to me. All shapes of women do it, they all feel empowered, it's not ingratiating and it's not selling something.
The thing is that our culture doesn't really have a vocabulary for expressing this stuff yet, people like Atalanta are the beginnings of a different expression.
And we shouldn't forget the cultic prostitutes of Greece and Sumeria! – like Shamhat in 'Gilgamesh'… women as sex objects just doesn't mix with capitalism, that's all. It always gets confused up with having to buy something fake. What we see in today's culture is like a straitjacket for women, designed to get sex under control. Ain't gonna work!
You're *so* right about the splits this makes in women. I see this alot, all these images of desire they are supposed to inhabit and then what? They haven't got anything of themselves out of it. It's happening to men too now.

I meant by ‘exposing’ the over-reaction to try to manifest something…
but all this is chewed over and over already, no use to continue this, we all know, we all try to do our best… but thanks for your responding

I have the honor to be supported by a couple of wonderful men in my life, who I adore like they adore me, in a mutual deep respect and a tremendous deep love both ways. I have no words for my gratitude, these men are crème de la crème. So I KNOW How things can be because I worked, found and live it.
I am just speaking up for all those women who are still struggling, suffer and are in pain of not having this type of union with men. And for all those men hoping to have this union with women. It is only so much frustrating that I know it is possible, that we can overcome the fear for each other and let go some terrible concepts, we can make it happen.
I made it happen in my life because I wanted it, shaped it and live it…November 27, 2006 at 1:47 pm #19462NnonnthParticipant>>in case you might think I am a nagging, frustrated middle aged woman :))<<
Nah, you don't come off that way!
Glad you pursued love and got the payoff – only sorry that this site hinders your free expression. NN
