Medical and Spiritual Qigong (Chi Kung)

Hello,
A friend of mine has been practicing baguazhang with Frank Allen in NYC.
I’ve become intrigued with the practice but am uncertain about a couple things.
1. How effective is bagua as a form of chi kung?
2. How well does bagua support an alchemical practice?
I feel like if I start really learning bagua it might turn out to be a lifetime thing, so I’m a little cautious.
A deeper issue here is the one of violence. Do I really want to study violence? Hmmm..
I can`t answer your questions about ba gua. It looks to me like it can be a very nice form of qigong.
I`m not sure what you mean by studying violence. But I think it is part of life. IMO, if you study your self, you are bound to come across violence as well.
Yup, violence is a part of life, that I can certainly agree with.
most people i know who study some form of martial arts don’t study it to learn how to commit violent acts, but to. . . it helps to keep them from having to commit violence of anykind. they are more at ease, more relaxed, and more grounded b/c of their training, and less likely to have to use the physical part of what they learned (ie. getting in fights, etc). if you have a good sifu/sensei/teacher i would hope these are things he would address. if violence is an issue/a big part of your world, you would want to discuss that with whoever is going to teach you first so they know.
got allen tapes and papers
good
you get the secrets to study on own
bagua has nice flow
kumar emphasizes it is one only purely taoist art with its circling moves
while tai chi and hsing i have straight line or zigzag moving base
remember that allen’s alchemical practice is an application of his celtic taoism
which is essentially a warrior/maiden realm
hsing i has obvious connection to winn’s five element animals
yet such style you will have to do on your own
for PCA is physical culture assosiation
Thank you for the replies.
I’ve been circle walking for the past 2 weeks or so and I like it.
A really nice somewhat yang feeling chi flow. Feels very healing.
