Medical and Spiritual Qigong (Chi Kung)

I understand that 9, 18, 36, 72 are commonly used with Chi Gong and that 9 is the number of completion. How important is it to do a movement with a 9 or multiple there of? It can be distracting.
There are definitely a few special forms such as Primordial, where
the numerology has a strong significance. In those cases,
it is good to be consistent in the application.
However, IN GENERAL, I don’t find it to be terribly important,
especially when the number exceeds 10.
Often the historical reason for such numbers like 36 or 72 etc.
wasn’t so much that the number was special, so much as it was
an indicator from Master Chia as to how long to do the practice.
This instruction was mainly added by him due to pressure from folks who
were always asking him how long to do it, and feeling dissatisfied
with the response of “do it for a while until you feel some
nice energy”.
Being able to feel the energy and connect with qi flow
is far more important than consistent numerology. If counting
becomes distracting, I think it is better to let it go and just
tune into the experience.
