Read this when it came out, really enjoyed itMay 24, 2015 at 9:30 pm #44350
the phrase ‘have your cake and eat it too’ reminded me of the BBC radio word game show ‘My Word’ which ended in 1990 but used to get replayed. One of the word plays was on this phrase and it was made into a comedic story about its origins involving ‘how to have your kayak and heat it too’.
“Most listeners tuned in for the final round, in which the comics provided their own shaggy dog stories by way of a bogus explanation for a well known phrase.
So you want to know where Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious comes from? Why, it’s just a shopping list, including a remedy for someone with bad breath: “Soup, a cauli, fridge-elastic, eggs, pea – halitosis!”August 26, 2015 at 5:03 pm #44352
These old ideas are a mess. I think mankind needs to try harder to find an answer.
The best answer I have heard that is shared by Gurdjieff and Anadi, is that humans do not in general have souls, they have seeds.
And the cosmic purpose of our life is to grow the seeds into souls. How is this done? Well it is the ego that needs to do it. It is the ego that meditates, in the beginning.
So there is no killing of the ego, because what would remain ? Nothing. If there is no soul, then killing the go results in nothing.
And obviously if all we had to do was to flip off the switch of the ego and we would all become our souls … well if it was that easy everyone would have done it by now.
And if that was the case … then what is the purpose of the ego ?
No, these old ideas are BS.
Only Gurdjieff/Anadi’s ideas make sense.
Many old masters say they have no ego, when clearly they do. They say they are emptiness, or they are god, or they never existed. But this is all very muddled and frankly stupid. What does it mean if the man in front of you eating a curry says he doesn’t exist ?!!!
Mankind is not very good at saying, “I don’t really know the answer”. He likes instead to make assertions to appear impressive.
And this trait is a great barrier to human progress. Why do humans still rely on ancient techniques ? Why do they still need Buddha after 2000 years ?
Well, because finding a sincere human being who isn’t just parroting something is very rare. Humans are addicted to their insincerity. Progress is extremely slow.
There are 8 billion people on the planet, and about 8 of them are sincere !!
There are many who talk about the mission my soul has on the planet. Really ? Are you sure you have a soul !!! Maybe you are just lost in your head. Mostly spirituality is just imagination.
Can we have both ? Well perhaps we should ask if we can have anything or if our mind is just talking a lot of hot air and inside is not very much at all !!!
