    The change.

    Fuck the good.
    Fuck the bad.
    They are both taxing.

    Four positions:
    What you are projecting on others.
    What you are wanting for from others.
    What others are projecting on you.
    What others yearning/sucking/hungering greatfully suckling from you.

    Each position is subject to local mental and emotional interpretation.

    Stirring one and ALL four are stirred. Always.

    When there is no feeding on others, no feeding others, no yearning nor wanting…

    When this happens, the visual call this ‘cutting the cord’.

    So shut up, and there is no cord left.
    It is WILL.

    It is ‘temporal’ technique.
    But it does not get one off the hook.
    The pressure of destiny becomes greatest. Obvious. Inevitable.

    If ‘permanent’ techniques:
    When connection if fully conscious in ALL its aspects…
    it shifts
    a neutral space is accessed
    how can this be draining?
    But ‘you’ change in the process.

    EXAMPLE analisys of do-good side:
    See suffering man.
    It touches your heart.
    You react.
    Form choice.
    Give your money.

    BUT 1:you have had the gathered money before this event.
    Why didn’t you immediately give your gathered money to the suffering?
    It is perverse to indulge in holding money and prolonging suffering.

    BUT 2:you have gathered some money and gave it immediately forward to the suffering.
    Now there is new situation to ponder: now you meet again a new suffering men!
    What do you do?
    You still have rent money. So it you having room or homeless having food.
    No money? How about your eyes, your kidneys, your heart…
    There are people who are standing in line with money to give for this.
    You agree? What are you still waiting for?

    BUT 3:now you want to maximaze the amount of food and similar to be given to the suffering poor.
    More will be helped.
    Now new sufferer comes along.
    Hungry.
    Do you feed him or help the many poor?
    You have money just feed him or go on with the project. Such can be the nature of our realm.
    Now you are on either of the two ways:
    -on the way to clinic giving your organs away and donating the rest for hungry worm. Enjoy. Some of it is inevitable.
    Still no stirring of the ‘heart’?
    Nothing?
    Well… it doesn’t matter anyway. You are not anymore.
    -on the way of project that will help many poor.
    Well… you had a meal that you did not give to other sufferer.
    Ask some and they will tell you it is strong karma.
    It is.
    It is called DESTINY.

    Thus I have stopped giving to the poor. I give only to those with spirit of faith in the eyes. I call them friends. Some are friend with scarce money.
    But this is not giving to others anymore. It is giving to me.
    And mingling with friends.

    If you give to others because they are poor that means that some part of you is poor. Then you are poor. Poor cannot give.

    No need to wonder, no need to be of fickle, no need to visit guilt,….
    no need…..
    when it is required to give … the universe knocks clearly …

    Listen with heart

    for not all giving is for reasons we can discern and not all of the gifts to give are the same nor what we can discern…. more importantly be welcome of the gifts offered to you, accept and be thankful and smile in your heart

    If some of us never give one cent for all our life here, that does not mean eternity is not yours, it does not mean that you will not reach the highest on high … for no one can judge that but the creator himself … it is not ours to discern.

    Ye shall not judge, not even yourself

    Gazing intently into the empty sky, vision ceases;
    Likewise, when mind gazes into mind itself,
    The train of discursive and conceptual thought ends
    And supreme enlightenment is gained.

    Like the morning mist that dissolves into thin air,
    Going nowhere but ceasing to be,
    Waves of conceptualization, all the mind’s creation, dissolve,
    When you behold your mind’s true nature.

    Pure space has neither colour nor shape
    And it cannot be stained either black or white;
    So also, mind’s essence is beyond both colour and shape
    And it cannot be sullied by black or white deeds.

    The darkness of a thousand aeons is powerless
    To dim the crystal clarity of the sun’s heart;
    And likewise, aeons of samsara have no power
    To veil the clear light of the mind’s essence.

    Although space has been designated “empty”,
    In reality it is inexpressible;
    Although the nature of mind is called “clear light”,
    Its every ascription is baseless verbal fiction.

    The mind’s original nature is like space;
    It pervades and embraces all things under the sun.

    Be still and stay relaxed in genuine ease,
    Be quiet and let sound reverberate as an echo,
    Keep your mind silent and watch the ending of all worlds.

    The body is essentially empty like the stem of a reed,
    And the mind, like pure space, utterly transcends
    the world of thought:
    Relax into your intrinsic nature with neither abandon nor control –
    Mind with no objective is Mahamudra –
    And, with practice perfected, supreme enlightenment is gained.

    Wow! that is some beautiful….

    It truly makes me want to cry…..

    The mind, its essence here is clear .. I have not heard this written before. Have always thought of having to overcome the mind, well I have thought of that way for a time now, have forgotten to loosen and let all out to clarify.

    Where does this writing come from?

    Rainbow, here is the full version:

    Tilopa’s Mahamudra Instruction to Naropa
    in Twenty Eight Verses

    Homage to the Eighty Four Mahasiddhas!
    Homage to Mahamudra!
    Homage to the Vajra Dakini!

    Mahamudra cannot be taught. But most intelligent Naropa,
    Since you have undergone rigorous austerity,
    With forbearance in suffering and with devotion to your Guru,
    Blessed One, take this secret instruction to heart.

    Is space anywhere supported? Upon what does it rest?
    Like space, Mahamudra is dependant upon nothing;
    Relax and settle in the continuum of unalloyed purity,
    And, your bonds loosening, release is certain.

    Gazing intently into the empty sky, vision ceases;
    Likewise, when mind gazes into mind itself,
    The train of discursive and conceptual thought ends
    And supreme enlightenment is gained.

    Like the morning mist that dissolves into thin air,
    Going nowhere but ceasing to be,
    Waves of conceptualization, all the mind’s creation, dissolve,
    When you behold your mind’s true nature.

    Pure space has neither colour nor shape
    And it cannot be stained either black or white;
    So also, mind’s essence is beyond both colour and shape
    And it cannot be sullied by black or white deeds.

    The darkness of a thousand aeons is powerless
    To dim the crystal clarity of the sun’s heart;
    And likewise, aeons of samsara have no power
    To veil the clear light of the mind’s essence.

    And, with practice perfected, supreme enlightenment is gained.

    The clear light of Mahamudra cannot be revealed
    By the canonical scriptures or metaphysical treatises
    Of the Mantravada, the Paramitas or the Tripitaka;
    The clear light is veiled by concepts and ideals.

    By harbouring rigid precepts the true samaya is impaired,
    But with cessation of mental activity all fixed notions subside;
    When the swell of the ocean is at one with its peaceful depths,
    When mind never strays from indeterminate, non-conceptual truth,
    The unbroken samaya is a lamp lit in spiritual darkness.

    Free of intellectual conceits, disavowing dogmatic principles,
    The truth of every school and scripture is revealed.

    Absorbed in Mahamudra, you are free from the prison of samsara;
    Poised in Mahamudra, guilt and negativity are consumed;
    And as master of Mahamudra you are the light of the Doctrine.

    The fool in his ignorance, disdaining Mahamudra,
    Knows nothing but struggle in the flood of samsara.
    Have compassion for those who suffer constant anxiety!
    Sick of unrelenting pain and desiring release, adhere to a master,
    For when his blessing touches your heart, the mind is liberated.

    KYE HO! Listen with joy!
    Investment in samsara is futile; it is the cause of every anxiety.
    Since worldly involvement is pointless, seek the heart of reality!

    In the transcending of mind’s dualities is Supreme vision;
    In a still and silent mind is Supreme Meditation;
    In spontaneity is Supreme Activity;
    And when all hopes and fears have died, the Goal is reached.

    Beyond all mental images the mind is naturally clear:
    Follow no path to follow the path of the Buddhas;
    Employ no technique to gain supreme enlightenment.

    KYE MA! Listen with sympathy!
    With insight into your sorry worldly predicament,
    Realising that nothing can last, that all is as dreamlike illusion,
    Meaningless illusion provoking frustration and boredom,
    Turn around and abandon your mundane pursuits.

    Cut away involvement with your homeland and friends
    And meditate alone in a forest or mountain retreat;
    Exist there in a state of non-meditation
    And attaining no-attainment, you attain Mahamudra.

    A tree spreads its branches and puts forth leaves,
    But when its root is cut its foliage withers;
    So too, when the root of the mind is severed,
    The branches of the tree of samsara die.

    A single lamp dispels the darkness of a thousand aeons;
    Likewise, a single flash of the mind’s clear light
    Erases aeons of karmic conditioning and spiritual blindness.

    KYE HO! Listen with joy!
    The truth beyond mind cannot be grasped by any faculty of mind;
    The meaning of non-action cannot be understood in compulsive activity;
    To realise the meaning of non-action and beyond mind,
    Cut the mind at its root and rest in naked awareness.

    Allow the muddy waters of mental activity to clear;
    Refrain from both positive and negative projection –
    leave appearances alone:
    The phenomenal world, without addition or subtraction, is Mahamudra.

    The unborn omnipresent base dissolves your impulsions and delusions:
    Do not be conceited or calculating but rest in the unborn essence
    And let all conceptions of yourself and the universe melt away.

    The highest vision opens every gate;
    The highest meditation plumbs the infinite depths;
    The highest activity is ungoverned yet decisive;
    And the highest goal is ordinary being devoid of hope and fear.

    At first your karma is like a river falling through a gorge;
    In mid-course it flows like a gently meandering River Ganga;
    And finally, as a river becomes one with the ocean,
    It ends in consummation like the meeting of mother and son.

    If the mind is dull and you are unable to practice these instructions,
    Retaining essential breath and expelling the sap of awareness,
    Practising fixed gazes – methods of focussing the mind,
    Discipline yourself until the state of total awareness abides.

    When serving a karmamudra, the pure awareness
    of bliss and emptiness will arise:
    Composed in a blessed union of insight and means,
    Slowly send down, retain and draw back up the bodhichitta,
    And conducting it to the source, saturate the entire body.
    But only if lust and attachment are absent will that awareness arise.

    Then gaining long-life and eternal youth, waxing like the moon,
    Radiant and clear, with the strength of a lion,
    You will quickly gain mundane power and suprem enlightenment.

    May this pith instruction in Mahamudra
    Remain in the hearts of fortunate beings.

    Michael, it only sounds like…

    My view:

    “beholding your mind’s true nature” is half the journey.
    the Path of Mystical Self-Realization.

    Learning to shape creation/Nature with that true mind is the other half.
    the Path of Inner Alchemy.

    They can both be cultivated simultaneously,
    There are no more absolutes.
    Just infinite levels of process.
    That is Tao Mind.

    Yes, seeing mind’s true nature is just the beginning…
    Truly, there is no end to this process.
    But, I’m not qualified to talk about something like that.
    One thing I can say is, what Emptiness Meditation or HT Internal Alchemy
    represents is such a tiny step in this colossal enfoldment.
    It is simply not enough time- even 6 hours a day is not enough.

    In my opinion the view Michael states here is in agreement with Tibetan tantric buddhism.

    ‘Finding the nature of mind’ and being able to find it again and again–what is really meant by ‘taking refuge’–is the first step in a journey that of necessity cannot end. The nature of mind is the true refuge–in western alchemy, the ‘lumen naturale’ or natural light, the inner, supernatural Alchemist that does the real work–which one found is then used as the locus or pillar of all future practice. True north. How could you contact and cooperate with this refuge without exercising your self awareness, your power of self reflection?–‘doing’ not-doing.

    The original meaning of the Tibetan word ‘lama’, as Herbert Guenther points out, is a descriptor that points to the in-forming aspect of the nature of mind, so that he sometimes translates it as ‘the innermost mentor’.

    If anyone really wants to know the detailed theory of Mahamudra, read ‘Mahamudra, the Quintessence of Mind and Meditation’, a book the 16th Karmapa, head of the Karma Kadgyu lineage, specifically requested be translated into English (a time saving hint: the second part, full of magically brilliant mahamudra poetry, basically contains a summary of most of the painfully detailed shamatha instructions in the first part). In there you will find that the idea is to ‘find the nature of mind’ and then use this repeatable experience to engage in deep transformation of the bodymind (beyond that though there are no specific alchemical techniques–but this is a fundamentally alchemical approach they’re presenting). They use blatant alchemical metaphors by times. Actually, I think that finding out that this is the way things are is really good news; it means there is an inner, supra-individual, intelligent, life-giving sun at the bottom of your own mind that you can contact and rely on. A careful read of D.T. Suzuki on zen will also bear out that he is pointing to this guiding force at the root of experience. The thing is to contact that without distorting it over much. Buddhism’s taking great pains not to get lost in distortion is often overdone and misunderstood.

    represents is such a tiny step in this colossal enfoldment.
    It is simply not enough time- even 6 hours a day is not enough.

    This is the very reason for Taoist emphasis on longevity – not out of attachment to physical life, but to allow more time for the alchemical process to mature.

    Hence “yang sheng” (Life-Nourishing exercises), the original title for qigong.
    They noticed that the bodies of passive sitting meditators, no matter how mind-enlightened they were, fell apart at about the same age as everyone else.

    The reason for this, as far as I can tell, is the tendency in the physical plane for the body to lapse into a slower vibrational state unless specifically trained otherwise.
