I was wondering if anyone if this community would advise me about some difficulty I’m having with the Fusion 1 practice?
When I try to Fuse a chronic pattern I can’t seem to get to feeling it deeply. What has worked for you?

I find Fusion 1 quite forceful. Indeed, I find all of the formulae I have learned (I’m at Sun-Moon alchemy) to be too yang for me in most cases. I have developed a much more yin approach that doesn’t involve me so much doing the formulae, but listening to my body and asking what it wants. I have developed this approach by combining the Healing Dao methods with the method of Focusing (see books by Eugene Gendlin and by Ann Weiser Cornell).
My approach is this: I search in my body (preferably in the lower abdomen) for some feeling. I then say “Hi” to it, with a neutral inner smile (not too yang, not too yin). For the longest time, just saying “hi” to some part of me had me in tears. Then, feel out the part, try and describe how it feels (sharp, achey, cold, lonely etc.) – when you find the right word, then there is often a release and a deep breath occurs spontaneously.
This process can continue on like that, recognizing different parts and allowing them to release. But, you can also ask the part what it would like. And, with HD, we can offer it any of the 5 energies and in any of the 25 combinations of them. Sometimes, though, just doing this process of focussing, a natural sort of alchemy occurs spontaneously.
This is a very simplified version of Focusing; if you find it works at all for you, you might want to check out the websites and books of Gendlin and Cornell.
This approach is not always the most appropriate. Sometimes the “hi” needs to be very yang or very yin. And, sometimes, the feeling part will not shift with this yin approach, and the yang approach of Fusion etc. is best.
Have fun!

I do not like to do Fusion or Kan and Li if I am not in the mood or if I am in a bad mood. I stick to the basic inner smile healing sounds in those cases till I feel more open, joyfull, and inspired.

I have found that there where and are some things that could not get intergrated with the fundamentals and fusion so if it still stays around even after trying different things it might just mean you need some other tools for the job. Hope this information will help so you do not get to frustrated. Using inspiration, instinct, and play full experimentation have been profound for me in my practice.
August 8, 2007 at 4:19 pm #23317voiceParticipantThanks for your concern, but I am not frustrated. My blending of Fusion and Alchemy allows me delve into any emotion and find gold. I do not have to wait to feel good to do my alchemy, because everything is open. I explore the parts of me that have worked so hard at some time in my past, and have now become outcasts. I accept them and help them, and glory in them as they become yuan/gold.
August 8, 2007 at 9:44 pm #23319skateParticipantthanks voice! I’ll look up those names you mention. I gather that the motions/feelings you expereinced were intense? so far mine has been like “watered out shells” without the entire emotive content. since I’ve been keeping at it for a day now, I have noticed that some of the energy must have cooked off in the DT, because of the energy surge I experienced was nice. At one point I felt a great big boiling yawn come up (and my chest was seriously expanded).
I like your method of saying hi! I’ll try it. I never thought of offering the feelings some combinations of the 5 energies….I’ll have to play with that.

August 8, 2007 at 9:53 pm #23323skateParticipantyou are so right about the inner smile. I had a really great time early this morning doing the inner smile. it cooked off some energy in the midst of the smile, from the fusion work of last night. its either that or fusing was going on in my deepest recesses and I didn’t even know it. the inner smile has suprised me again, just like it did at HM. I must have some resistance to doing it.
one thing I have noticed is that (Fund 1-4 and now Fusion as well) when I practice and try really hard nothing works. when I lighten up and play, things just flow. What is happening with that?
August 8, 2007 at 10:17 pm #23325DogParticipantIf you look again at the way I posted you can see it was not directed at you. But I am glad it got a responce. 🙂
August 8, 2007 at 10:53 pm #23327DogParticipantBeing a adult kills us, childs play heals us. One creates limits and stagnancy the other flow and openess. The Chi respondes to this. You are working with allot of partners in this life. What would happen to your love life if you made you wife have sex with you and you made it very ridgid and left the playfullness and inspiration out what if you left the heart right out of it. Your wife is one of your sexual partners you have allot of partners so much life is all around us. Look at things as your play mates. Sometimes they want to have sex fast and on top maybe in the bathroom some times slow and steamy in the bedroom sometimes not at all. Sometimes they can tell you are just not open to what they want to do. Most beings I find are not as complicated as human to human relationships in fact most things just like the attention. Only thing I could think of, hope that helps. With all this Kan & Li maybe I am just a litle over sexed…………nooooooot.:)
August 9, 2007 at 5:34 pm #23329sebastianParticipantPractice the microcosmic orbit so much that you can see inside yourself using the mind anything you want. After that, Fusion 1 is just as natural as doing the simpliest practices.

your advice seems to line up quite nicely with my experience so far. Qigong as play, as life is play…..It is nice having somebody ahead of me on the path.
I haven’t taken Kan and Li yet but I get the message!…I’ve been a lot more active since I came back from HM…my wife seems to notice the playfulness..;-)
I seem to be cooking off some energy from the fusion, even if I don’t experience intense emotions. I’ll just keep working on it. the reversal of chi flow into the 5 shin does work nicely. what an insight that has been.
August 9, 2007 at 9:16 pm #23333skateParticipantwill do! I hadn’t gotten much action off the microcosmic orbit until I started fusion…now after nuturing the shin a few times the orbit is easier to see in the minds eye, and much easier felt.
