I think what he’s trying to say is that
1. Reality is not just thinking/an idea
This is his indestructible example. You can think you
are indestructible, but if you step in front of a moving
semi, the actual experience tells you otherwise.
Note: Other examples providing less self-harm might prove useful here 😉2. Reality is more than just experience
If you experience something (say in a dream state), that doesn’t
make it reality. Outside observers must corroborate your experience.
THIS EXTRA STEP SEPARATES REALITY FROM DELUSION.In summary, Reality = Experience + Outside Corroboration
Of course, not everything that we experience and consider part of
our reality do we independently verify as being “real”. For
instance, if I see a blue jay singing on a tree, I typically
consider that part of reality, even though I have not gone to
get outside corroboration that it really exists. However,
I also see no reason as to why it would not be corroborated,
so I *assume* it to be true. Thus, while de jure,
Reality = Experience + Outside CorroborationDe facto: Reality = Experience + PROBABLE Outside Corroboration

If one is meditating and they are trying to connect to immortals and the person has a dialogue and they say, Yes, I speak with immortals, does this mean it is real? If I read him right he is saying whatever we think or dream it is reality. I do not agree with this, somethings are just thoughts, dreams, fantasies, delusions.
August 15, 2010 at 12:29 am #34902StevenModerator>>>If one is meditating and they are trying to connect to immortals
>>>and the person has a dialogue and they say,
>>>Yes, I speak with immortals, does this mean it is real?It does not fit the formula I previously mentioned (namely it
lacks outside corroboration) so it can NOT be accepted as part of reality.HOWEVER, the person DID have an experience, so what it boils down to is this:
1. If you do NOT BELIEVE that their experience was sourced from something
outside of fantasy, then you have no choice but to consider their experience
as delusion!2. If you DO believe that their experience was sourced from something
outside of fantasy, then the best you can say is that you SUPPORT the
POSSIBLE reality of the experience, and consider the “jury to be out”
until you have likewise experienced it.Typically in the Healing Tao community, in particular those that practice
the alchemical formulas of One Cloud beyond formula #1, the default is usually to
the SECOND CHOICE I mentioned above, which forms a sort of comforting
support to the others that are likewise practicing. Of course there
is no reason why a person shouldn’t be allowed to identify with the
FIRST CHOICE if they so chose. The main danger, of course, in the SECOND CHOICE, is that if
another person later on has a similar experience, then even though
it wasn’t the same experience and therefore legitimately can not
be said to be corroboration, it forms a sort of pseudo-corroboration
or at the very least, additional support to the phenomenon. The
main problem here is that, since there is–by its nature–a flimsy
quality to the verification of the experience in this case,
it is therefore uncertain as to whether the phenomenon is
REALITY (in a de facto sense) or SHARED DELUSION.Putting these ingredients together, the phenomenon of connection
to “otherworldly immortals”, is either POSSIBLE REALITY or
SHARED DELUSION. Each person in the community selects from
one of these two choices, and the selection itself is PURELY
a matter of personal opinion.Steven

How can you reference, or corroborate channeled information??? You can’t! Its up to you to believe it or not, and since it is not referenced by anyone but the channel, de facto, you believe that it is false. This is all fine, but when you want everyone else to automatically believe it is false too, you lose because they all have free will to believe what they want.
August 15, 2010 at 3:24 am #34906singing oceanParticipantI guess this post answered his question a little too clearly, that’s why there is no response.
August 15, 2010 at 3:35 am #34908singing oceanParticipantI appreciate your logical approach, it quite accurately describes the issues with corroborating reality and experience, and how it is only 2/3 ever correct, that was not the reason for my response.
I fully understand everything he is saying, but I don’t think he really even bothers to read my posts which results in a surface interpretation:
Noun
simplism
1. The trait of oversimplifying things by ignoring complexity and complications
and a response that is often slightly off topic and requires me having to excessively clarify things , which goes on and on until the discussion ends up being an argument about what is correctly “daoist” and what is not, which leads to things being rather:
Adjective
cattywampus
1. (informal) In disarray or disorder; askew.
Its too much of my time and energy.
August 15, 2010 at 8:12 am #34910wendyParticipantAll in all it is an interesting discussion, as it took me many years to get some sort of grip on what ‘reality’ is… and you know what… I don’t know.
Some must have thought I suffered from delusions and some said it was as real as the cup I am holding. I lived for many years telling myself it was delusion because I could not accept that there were other ‘realities’ who would even take notice of me, as I felt unworthy and very small compared to those other worlds. It was a lesson for me to accept myself in the first place, when I got to a certain point of self acceptance (after lets say 10 years of self love work), the pendulum started to sway and I started to open up to the ‘possibility’ that those other realities could be as real as the cup I hold.
I am very critical when it comes to living fantasies, believing blindly, I rather turn a stone 10 times before I accept it as a stone.
I worked with psychiatric patients who made me believe they were a doctor themself, who explained to me the design of the universe (really amazing but nuts as hell), who believed they were the devil, I have seen it all, so I know how the mind can trick and fool, how realities are born in the eye of the believer. And you know what, seeing it all, living it all, exploring it all, I don’t know who is right and who is wrong, what is real and what is fantasy.
What I do care about is how those ‘realities’ changed me as a person, deep inside.
The REAL quest has been to find a balance between the outer worldly reality and move amongst my fellow others in a practical natural loving supportive way and my inner worldly reality that I only share with those who share ME, the whole enchilada. I could say those who want to step into my ‘delusion’, my ‘fantasy’ or my ‘other worldly reality’, whatever it is, they love me as me.
Love is the binding force between the worlds, and this is a deep truth… that is what I learned so far and maybe that is the only thing I needed to learn really, maybe that was the whole lesson from it all…
August 15, 2010 at 9:13 am #34912StevenModeratorHi Wendy,
In some sense, it almost doesn’t matter which category an experience falls into;
it’s just whether or not the experience can be integrated in, and used as an additional source of growth, so that one can live more freely and open-hearted in the
present moment. The rest is just semantics and may not be “important” in its own right. They just serve to be judgments which cloud the heart and act as barriers to love . . . both for oneself and for others. Better to just accept and integrate
and avoid letting the mind get too involved . . .S

Yes, its obvious, nobody takes it serious. Are you taking this example and applying to all references used in this forum and alchemy? How can you reference, or corroborate channeled information??? You can’t! Its up to you to believe it or not, and since it is not referenced by anyone but the channel, de facto, you believe that it is false. This is all fine, but when you want everyone else to automatically believe it is false too, you lose because they all have free will to believe what they want.

Why do you continue to falsely sayings things I say, I never said all channeled info is false, i said how do we draw a difference between what is real and imagination?August 15, 2010 at 12:05 pm #34916DogParticipantJust want to share my experience. Often when people talk about reality i feel they are talking about what is presently going on in the denseness. What is real is mainly a judgment that what is more dense, statues quo and idol is more real. In my opinion the flow and presence of a dream is more likely closer to the reality of nature with out the imposed idol worship of humanity. You could say what is real is what is present, thus if you are not present you are not living in reality. I feel that is a fair statement.
I now I have not been around for awhile. I was hard at work becoming the first master in Twicken Kung Fu. Grand master Twicken has development an amazing system for health and martial arts based on healing and attacking according to the meridian clock and Yi Jing. The hardest part has been translating his north accent so that southerns can understand his teaching. I just pray the evil Manchurians do not learn the secret of our Wutang sword.

August 15, 2010 at 3:18 pm #34920voiceParticipantWendy,
Ahhhhhh… Your words born of experience are life-giving water in this, to me, otherwise arid war of words.
I have largely given up on this board because no one talks about their feelings or experiences, but instead hide behind what, to me, seem like shields of ideas.
Bravo to you for not giving up!

Michael used this intention in the advanced lesser kan and li form with the Bai Hui point (crown) the last time he taught it during one of his courses.
It does feel satisfying to complete something, and once we complete it, we move on to other things.
August 16, 2010 at 4:39 pm #34926singing oceanParticipantI have been thinking a lot lately about love and lust, and how they are like yin and yang. Love is the binding force, but so is the amplifying, regenerating power of sexuality. Seems best when they are balanced with each other.
