    You make some valid points.

Yet, at the same time, I don’t remember when I
was growing up or in my parents generation,
when there was more war and “less comfort”,
people being afflicted with anxiety disorders.

And by afflicted, I don’t mean just being
diagnosed or simply complaining, I mean having
the condition so that it is debilitating to them
and they can not function. Anyone who actually
has had an anxiety disorder knows what I mean here.
Yet, overall, for the most part, this was something
    you simply did not see.

It appears as though even though life was just as
stressful before, maybe even more so, people were
able to “handle it”, but today much less so. The
    real question is why.

I think its our culture/society. We have professions now for people to discuss matters that were never discussed before. In the past divorce was difficult or could not occur. Women would have to stay married and just shut up and live their life even if they were miserable. Up until recently women were really property owned by husband, their feelings did not matter. As we go back in history it gets worse. There was no profession of therapists, no reality tv, no outlets for expression of their feelings. Some of the world is still like the old way. Go to middle east, women are not equally, their culture is not like ours. I believe its our culture. It was a lot worse in the past.

    Makes sense.

A natural corollary to this is the question
of whether the availability of all this therapy,
sharing, and discussion is a good thing, or whether
    it aggravates the problem.

Or maybe the anxiety beforehand was more suppressed . . .

    Just musing,

My feelings: If it can lead to growth and change, a good thing. If it becomes part of one’s constitution and a way of life than not so good.
