    Hi members,

This is my first post so I apologize if this isn’t the right place to post.

    Here’s my story:

I’ve been doing qigong for 6 months now. I also started taking herbs to help with liver qi stagnation and a weak kidney. Within two weeks I started having an urge to contract my anal sphincter. I went to see three different TCM doctors along with my qigong master. The diagnosis was unclear for the most part. One doctore said I had to much yin in my body. A second one thought it might be my liver trying to pull energy from my kidneys. But since my liver is stagnate it is working extra hard. So the contraction might be because my body is trying to save qi energy from falling out of the hui yin point.

Well, it’s been over two months now and the condition seems to be getting worse. I feel bloated, heavy, and low energy. I constantly contract my sphincter which makes my abdomen type, and thus its hard to get a good deep breath.

It’s not life threatening and there are times when I am doing something I forget this urge. Which makes me wonder, is this a mind-body thing? But overall, it is very uncomfortable to the point that I can’t sleep at night.

Does anyone have an idea/advice to this?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I am not able to give a diagnosis but suggest you consult again with a doctor.

Probably the contraction indicates qi energy is trying to move up your back.

After two months taking the herbs your condition has gotten worse with low energy. Maybe your liver is releasing too much and making your condition worse. Or maybe the herbs are aggravating your liver.

I would start to question why you are still taking the same herbs? It appears to me that you should start seeing what works and stop taking the herbs for a week or so. If your energy returns, you feel less bloated, etc. after not taking the herbs then you know the herbs weren’t the right combo for you. If you feel worse after a while after not taking the herbs then you have feedback and can reconsult with your doctor with that information.

I don’t know what type of qi gong you are doing but I would suggest the same thing. Either stop or change it to discern if it is adding to the symptoms. Try doing simple meditation and/or breathing for a while.

If there is no change to your condition after changing and/or stopping your practice and herbs after a while I would guess then too much energy is being blocked and you might try to find grounding practices and/or energetic healer.

    Good luck

Herbs can sometimes have unexpected reactions in some people.
In any case, I’d stop the herbs immediately.

If your symptoms do not subside in a few days,
you should consult a medical doctor . . . if not sooner.

Thanks for both of your advice. I just realized I probably should have posted this on the practice forum.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did stop taking the herbs. It has been over a month now without them. I would hate to give up my qigong since it’s the one thing that I love to do every day. I am working with a TCM doctor and getting acupuncture along with new herbs. I will give that a shot and take it from there.

Unless you are doing something really extreme,
I doubt that the qigong is the cause of the symptoms.

If you have not been taking any herbs for a month
and you have been having health issues, you
should get checked out by medical doctor before
exploring clever treatments with Chinese medicine.

    IMHO . . . Steven

bowser, it may be psychological, might be a good idea to talk to your doctor about it, good luck.

Yep i rekon talk to a doctor, if he says no problem…. Next stop qigong for 2 weeks and see if it goes away. If it does well you know it is qigong. You can either keep doing it and hope the problem resolves it’s self or if it bothers you that much stop doing qigong. Or just try a different style of qigong.
