Actually, Mantak Chia played this video for everyone in his
Week 1 retreat–then gave some commentary afterward.
Due to charts he had, the normal brain activity for the
right hemisphere tends to be much lower than that of the right.
Body movements (e.g Qigong!) act to exercise the right side.
Strengthening the right side helps spiritual awakening.
However, the left side is important too. As demonstrated by
the video when the woman had her stroke, without the left side
the functional part of you is gone. You need the left side to
function. This can be a problem for cloistered monks who spend
all their time praying/meditating–they develop their right side
at the cost of their left. Then they can’t function.
The idea is to strengthen the right side–but to do so only to
bring the halves into balance, but not to ignore the left side.
