Once again, Pregadio proves himself the top scholar working in the neidan field. A lot of the jewels are hidden in footnotes.
One resolves the origin of Dragon Gate (longmen) sect inner alchemy methods. Turns out it doesn’t come from the 13th cen. Quanzhen tradition as previously claimed by Quanzhen scholar Louis Komjapthy, but from 7th cen (and maybe older) Zhong-Lu neidan school texts.
The alchemy formulas from One Cloud come from this lineage, oral transmission. Of course, for the practicing adept this kind of scholarship cannot resolve the practical questions of HOW does one best cultivate xing (original nature) and ming (worldly destiny). That has more to do with cultivating DE (pre-natal inner power) and YI (post-natal creative intent).
My own teaching style of neidan cultivates both ming and xing simultaneously. The inner smile cultivates one’s original nature (xing). Primordial Qigong cultivates BOTH. All the Kan & Li formulas cultivate Xing by growing the elixir of crystallized yin-yang-yuan Qi.
