CKF 5 Animals Monkey two moves good but sometimes I need to work strongly on Stomach and Spleen and use twisting movement from set shown link below (Traditional teacher San Diego area) – movement from alleged Shaolin set (just very old medical chi kung moves). The movement with twisting waist gently is called “Gather a Star and exchange it for a Dipper” meaning I think take star from horizon level and take it up to pole star = central axis. By paying attention to the upper hand as it passes eye level, pausing is okay for medical chi kung too, feel the connection from waist to central axis. Very similar to holding 2nd Monkey position from 5 Animals set but a little more movement. I then return to do more Monkey, involving mouth more.
Seems a big mystery that central Earth element has yang and yin components. Stress held here in body affects boundaries, timing, excessive empathy, and all manner of digestive issues. I notice in the Yichuan book by Lam Kam Chuen (Way of Power page 57) second Monkey variant (hand faces outward or upward) is called “The Dragon at ease” when held as a static pose in a low stance for power.
Stomach Spleen earth so important. As it is said, Iron Shirt is okay but for gripey guts need to do the twist!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW9RVpg8SJg . In my experience its a nice addition but not a replacement to the healing sounds. It can be nice for contemplation of the relationships and behavior of the elements. Let me know if you want more details as I have his book which explains the form.
I have an issue with the spleen as well and as my practice expands I find more and more that it affects all the organs in the left thrusting channel. So sometimes I need to work more on the left kidney and even the heart. So few round of healing sounds are needed to get the spleen flowing plus the left channel. I find embracing the tree helping a lot since it has and left-right balancing + energizing effect so in combination with the sounds makes a nice managing tool.

Just like to add that (IMO) holding one hand at Ming Men opposite navel and other at the navel before starting the twisting movement gives a good feeling for yin and yang and how the movement is meant to balance the yin and yang in earth(ST Yang, SP yin). Similar to another to balance BL/K with one hand on Ming Men and other hand resting on back of head. Yes, healing sounds can be good but sometimes for me only after moving the heavy contracted or stuck energy. Spleen Stomach relates to the virtue of trust, the trustworthy centre of the earth. MW suggests the attitude of gradually shifting ones allegiance to the centre – this involves dissolving Jing patterns of past reliance on the less than trustworthy. To assist this process sometimes have to employ tai chi ball, squeezing the ball outside the Spleen Stomach area to break the corrupt energies. Pangu chi kung with the spiralling in left, right and centre helps too. Yes, embracing tree helps too, particularly in giving protection. Thanks for comments and good luck with practice.
October 9, 2016 at 6:39 pm #47370StevenModeratorIf twisting seems to help you, you might also try the Tao Yin (floor exercise) movement “Twist Body Like Snake”. It helps release tension in both liver and spleen. Liver can also effect the spleen via stress and striking spleen through the controlling cycle.
Other things like self-abdominal massage such Buffalo Plows the Field (Stem Cell Qigong), as well as the Stem Cell Qigong routine in general can help break up congested energy in the abdominal region.

It’s an interesting topic, i’ve had this problem lots and studied very well ways that help me in this problem.
There are 2 parts, 1. qigong to fix the problem, 2. lifestyle changes to stop aggravating the problem.
This are the things that i find help me
1. healing sounds, especially spleen and liver
If you want to do fusion or increasing energy do it to the lungs it helps hold things in check
Inner smile or watch the breath or some other type of calming the mind technique2. Don’t read, try to reduce thinking, more watching & feeling
Try to reduce drinking alcohol or don’t drink at all
Lemon juice in water every day
Milk thistle herbs help
If you’re going to do weights, do leg exercises only or stomach. No shoulders, chest back and especially not neck
Stretch shoulders neck & spineI find doing these things all together any spleen / liver issues sort themselves out in 2 weeks. It’s very fast and i feel the improvements every day.

I also do Monkey from 5 animals, tracing belt channel, Spleen healing sound often, earth pulsing etc. Currently lots of 8 extras form and sitting orbits practice. All helps. It is also helpful to work with the meaning of Earth element or phase as trustworthy centre and its improvement.
