A few weeks ago I noticed that, after long hot showers, there was a clear red line running down my inner legs. It sort of reminded me of the pictures I’d seen of the energy channels/meridians. I eventually compared it to a book and, sure enough, the red marks (about 1-cm/0.3-inches wide) followed exactly the liver meridian as it ran down the inner thigh to the point between the big and second toes.
I found this very cool because I have never consciously experienced the energy flow in the meridians — actually, I still haven’t experienced it, I’ve just seen it — and so this validated for me that they really exist.
I mentioned it to my Feldenkrais therapist, and she gave me some Jin Shin holds to help the liver energy flow. After about a week, the red stripes no longer appeared after my showers. She also told me that someone had shown the meridians exist by injecting some isotope into the body. I Googled that, and a bit of text about it is below (http://sulcus.berkeley.edu/mcb/165_001/papers/manuscripts/_805.html):
French scientist, Pierre de Vernejoul. Vernejoul used radioactive isotopes and a gamma- imaging camera to prove that the meridian system exists. He injected the radiolabeled isotopes into specific acupoints on humans, and found that the isotopes traveled thirty centimeters along the meridians. This transport of the isotope happened within four to six minutes from the initial injection. To support his findings even further, Vernejoul injected radiolabled isotopes into random blood vessels, not paying any attention to the acupuncture meridians. He found that, “the isotopes did not travel in the same manner at all, further indicating, that the meridians do indeed comprise a system of separate pathways within the body”. Interesting . . .
Do you actually feel any different now that they are not appearing?
What do you think was the cause?

The cause was probably some combination of it being spring (wood/liver season) and that my right side has been very tight/compressed (but much less so after the last Feldenkrais functional integration).
When I was doing the Jing Shin holds, at some point during the hold I would feel sick, and when that passed after a couple of minutes, I would shift to the other side. So, I feel a bit cleaner and a bit more vibrant now.June 7, 2007 at 6:42 pm #22547
Sometimes they show when there is excess heat in the meridian.
