Primorial Qigong goes counter-clockwise, regardless of what hemisphere you are on. There was a detailed discussion recently regarding this. Although it was mainly for Deep Healing Qigong, there was also discussion of Primordial as well, as they go in opposite directions. See thread below (link takes to the middle, where he discusses PQ):

I think it depends on what “type” of chi you are bringing in, but I’ve seen it all over the map as well. I usually think of blue for earth energy, and I’ve read gold and/or white for universal and/or particle/human plane energy. I still don’t quite grasp the particle/human plane chi and how it is different from universal. Chia always talks…[Read more]

I agree with Steven on getting the QF4 DVD, it’s really good stuff. I throw in the joint and tendon qigong warmups all the time while I am taking short breaks at work, and the standing stuff is good and simple. It really got me working with moving the energy up and down in my body. Michael says that the master he learned the standing postures…[Read more]

Most certainly, and I appreciate the encouragement and respect your expertise. To follow up, I’d have to say that I am a fast learner, and with my dedication to practice (as little time per day as I have), I bet you’d be surprised at how “good” I am at Tai Chi already…not to profess that I am really all that good anyway…
As for Winn’s…[Read more]

I don’t think I’m wasting time. It feels great, and that’s all that matters right now.

Thanks Steven, I know I will eventually need live instruction and will get there one day. Even my first “virtual mentor”, Julia of Cincy HT, with whom I have still not met in person, told me that from the start (even with the same “it doesn’t have to be me”).
I’ve been enjoying mostly qigong movement forms over the past few years, which I…[Read more]

I agree with all of Steven’s suggestions, especially the Tai Chi 1 DVD by Marie Favorito. I recently learned the set from that DVD and it is very good.
I also learned IS1 and Tao Yin from Chia’s books, and they are very achievable through just the books. The descriptions of the postures in IS1 are very thorough, and I feel like I can do them…[Read more]

In much simpler terms, the lower dantian (“the dantian”) is the lower energy field, the ming men is basically the back door and the navel is the front door. I never really felt the full dimensionality of the dantian until the breathing exercises of QF 3 and dantian-ming men breathing on the QF 4 DVD.

As Chia says, “you do it, you get it.” Do whatever works for you, and ask questions as they arise. There are some pretty knowledgeable folks on this forum.

I’m not very poetic, but I would say “live with an inner smile always.”
My advice would be to read Michael Winn’s “Way of the Inner Smile” free ebook if you have not already. I started out with Mantak Chia’s “Taoist Ways of Transforming Stress into Vitality” (see link below) but Michael’s book took my inner smile much deeper. If you’re…[Read more]

Good to hear! I haven’t practiced DHQ much since I completed my 100 days practice, but whenever I go back to older qigong forms I do notice they are deeper and stronger.
As for the direction, I don’t know for sure, but would venture to guess if it feels right then go for it! I’m not sure why there would be a reason to stay facing south.…[Read more]

I would recommend learning the inner smile and microcosmic orbit and practice them regularly. This will teach you to move the chi and/or feel it better. I would assume that it is moving and you just don’t know it, or it is getting blocked up somewhere. Before I learned the orbit I felt congestion in my lower back where I have mild scoliosis,…[Read more]
