Interesting points, Howdy.
I have often wondered about the objective truth of Chinese medical theory myself.
February 2, 2011 at 8:05 pm #36601RyanOParticipantHaha yep, in fact I had a little ceremony today in honor of it being Imbolc, or Groundhog Day as you say (interesting how many holidays we celebrate have pagan origins). And yes, this is the true ‘beginning’ of Spring, I just wish that were more accepted. So yes, Happy Spring!
January 30, 2011 at 11:32 am #36579RyanOParticipantNice that makes sense thanks Steven.
January 30, 2011 at 10:53 am #36540RyanOParticipanttrue, and I meant that in a good way 🙂
January 30, 2011 at 12:07 am #36538RyanOParticipantWow very cool! Thanks for the response! Definitely apropos to the topic.

December 7, 2010 at 7:35 am #36083RyanOParticipantOh ok, makes sense. I definitely agree with you, both forms are great and intention seems to be the most important thing.
December 6, 2010 at 11:42 pm #36079RyanOParticipantHi Russell,
I think I get what you’re saying…basically, that either way can work depending on one’s perspective.
So do you live in the Southern Hemisphere? If not, why are you more drawn to seeing fire as north?
Like I said I personally think its odd that maps have north on top.
December 5, 2010 at 9:13 pm #36067RyanOParticipantHey there, not quite sure what your question is, but it’s pretty universal that fire corresponds to the direction south, and water to the north. However, if you’re in the southern hemisphere, this would reverse.
I’m not sure about this ‘whole earth’ view that you’re talking about. Could you explain it?
We live in a strange world where our spirit is omnidirectional but our body is not. Distinctions between elemental/directional correspondences inevitably depend on one’s perspective.
We are used to North being ‘up’ and south being ‘down’ because that’s how our maps are drawn. But this is a mistake IMO. Ancient Taoist maps were drawn with South on top which makes more sense according to the correspondences.
Even in western elemental systems fire is associated with south.
It’s possible your confusion stems from the fact that north is often depicted as being up/above when in fact is should be down/below.
December 5, 2010 at 9:02 pm #36061RyanOParticipantInteresting, thanks for the feedback Steven.
December 2, 2010 at 2:02 pm #35980RyanOParticipantHuh oh starting to get political! Wasn’t trying to go there. You’re right, but shouldn’t union and harmony be a goal?
Seems to me that all religious groups do is exacerbate the problem by further splitting people into tribal-ish mentalities.
December 2, 2010 at 12:30 am #35974RyanOParticipantHey Steven,
Good and interesting points. I do think respect is important. I just thought it was sort of ironic that there was a Quran post immediately followed by a Bible post (which was this person’s first post, linked to a pay site, so it could be considered spam).
Additionally, the difficulty I have with organized religions is the inherent divisiveness of it. So someone might be healed by this bible teaching, for instance, and consequently think this verifies the religion. Then one begins to label themselves ‘Christian’ and attempt to evangelize, much like our Islamic friend here.
Such religious labels create barriers between human beings and are counter to the universal oneness of humanity. Thus I believe while people are worthy of respect, religious beliefs should be criticized when appropriate.
Admittedly, it is difficult to be diplomatic for both sides when the topic is religion. Perhaps you’re goal of addressing specific ideas is the way to go.
